SRS Light Reset?

My car just came back from the body shop. They replaced both airbags, module, clock spring...everything.

My SRS light remains on and they told me the dealer needs to reset it since they cannot. Dealer only item.

Any idea what they do exactly and cost?

Have you tried the SRS light reset DIY that we have on here? Do a search, resetting it is mighty simple.

why did you need to push the clutch down? i've done this dozens of times when i was rewiring the airbag and never had to step on the clutch.

The reset procedure you posted the link to worked on the second try for me. Sure you're using the right plug and jumpering them properly? Timing is the key.

It tried it over and over but here is how it went...

1) You need to find the MES Connector... Yada Yada CHECK!

2) Clip one alligator clip to one of the prongs and the other alligator clip to the other prong. If you're using 2 strands of wire, you won't be clipping, but twisting or shoving the wire into the respective prongs. CHECK!

3) Hold the two ends of your wire together, so that they are now connected.CHECK!

4) Keeping the wires connected, turn the ignition on (Do NOT start your car).CHECK!

5) The SRS light comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off. Quickly disconnect the two wires.CHECK!

6) The SRS light will come on again. Quickly reconnect your wires.CHECK!

7) The SRS light goes off. Disconnect your wire connection and leave the wires disconnected. NO GOOD. This is where it ends. I cannot get further than this. The Light never goes off after I reconnect at step 6. How quickly does the light usually go off after you reconnect at step 6? Right away? Or does it take a while?

8) If you did this correctly, the SRS will blink twice.

9) Turn the ignition off and wait 10 seconds.

10) Turn the ignition on, thus starting your car, and hopefully the SRS light will now be off.

11) Turn your car off, assuming the above instructions worked and your SRS light is now off. If not, either retry the instructions and/or verify that nothing else is wrong.

11) Remove your wires, do not cross them at all or let them touch. Replug the yellow/green connector back into the "dummy harness".

12) If the SRS light comes back on (assuming you reset the SRS correctly and the light was off), then something is malfunctioning in the SRS Airbag System and you'll have to see a dealership or repair shop.

I think I know what the problem is. The body shop owes me one seatbelt replacement (which they are doing now).

I just came from the dealer buying some unrelated parts and he told me that the light will stay on until that seatbelt is replaced. He said most times the light should go off on its own once all the components of the SRS system are replaced. *crossing fingers*

Just an FYI in case anyone else runs into this issue in the future.

The SRS light went off on it's own when the Body Shop finally replaced the Driver Seat belt.

I even went to the dealership today (for an un-related issue) and I was able to pull one of the mechanics to the side who was on a smoke break. Off the record he told me that for the CL there is no need to reset any computer as long as all of the SRS components (including the seat belt) are replaced with new parts after an accident with Airbag Deployment. He was right.

Thanks for all of the help guys!
