Everything you're explaining sounds normal. You have to remember that there's about a half to full second delay on the SS, so from the time you tap it to down shift and it downshifts could take up to a full second. That being said, hitting it twice will actually only result in a one gear downshift.

As for it not down/upshifting, it could also be related to your RPMs. I know there's been times I've been cruising around 2200 RPM in 4th and I try to go to 5th and it won't let me. Once I speed up a little it's fine. I've never heard of it not shifting while you're accelerating. There's no clutch, so you should never need to lift your foot off the gas to shift......

doesn't anyone heel and toe around here? BMW saw the wisdom (SMG) of matching revs (as did Ferrari) on their autoshift programs which just reinforces my belief that you should do it as well. I blip the throttle when downshifting and do it according to what gear I am going into. That is, if from 4th to 3rd, I do not blip the accelerator as hard as I do from 3rd to 2nd. try it, you'll like it!!
