"Sport" Shift question
"Sport" Shift question
2 things... Has anyone found a mod or tweak to speed up the sport shift? That thing shifts slower than my grandma. Also, I feel that the '+' and '-' is backwards. How do I go about changing that?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Yeah a speed up fix would be sweet, the delay is really anoying. im thinking maybe u need a chip that will change the shifting times. Id also like to see a fix to keep the car in 1st gear or be able to down shift to 1st gear when im drving at like 10mph, i just hate how the car rushes to get out of 1st!!!!!!!!

I have read such fantastic things about how CL owners have installed new sound systems and turbos and superchargers and CAIs and different fog lights... I just can't believe that there isn't some electrical engineer type out there working on a quicker sport shift. I guess I could just trade in this heap for a 6 speed... Glad to hear that at least it is quicker than the BMW.
Well, in the end the tranny is an automatic, so like everyone said, you're going to get that delay on any SS car... and it will be a bigger delay (VW/Audi is a little longer too). Bottom line, if you want it quicker.. get the 6-speed.
As for the +/- thing.. someone on here did the switch. It's basically a change in the ECU. I think it was Chris (aka TheModMole) that did it. May want to do a search under his username.

I don;t have the pdf file to show you how to take the center console apart however once you are in there you will see a gray multi pin connector at the rear of the of the shifter mechanism .If you flip the yellow and orange wires you will reverse the function of the shifter to what you want .
There is sadly no way to speed up the shifting process nor has there been a way to hold first gear .Jens

What is the slowness you're referring to? The delay from when you move the stick to when it shifts, or the actual time the shift takes? I find that if i hit the stick about 200 or 300RPMs before redline, it'll shift right at it. If you time it right you shouldn't have a problem.
The tranny moves quite quickly when actually making the change. From what i observe, anyways.
That's right, you newbies are shifting slow cause you're inexperienced. With 70,000 miles of practice under my belt, I can get it to shift as fast as a manual, even faster.
I did a post about 2 years ago about the times right here on ACL. I think we came up with about 0.5 seconds on average the SS was slower. With a lot of practice, it easy to speed this up.
Tell you what. If you think it is slower, post the time it takes to shift with the SS. And then someone with the 6sp post the time it takes to shift. Then we can compare the two times. If it's taking so slow to shift, you should be able to use your wristwatch with a second hand to get the time for us.

Oh, BTW, holding the gear in 1st serves no useful purpose whatsoever. Just extra work. I'm glad it auto-shifts out of 1st. Besides, I have been able to get it stay in 1st as long as I need it anyway...again, it's the driver.
The only thing I've heard that may speed it up .. is a synthetic tranny fluid .. though I highly doubt this now since Jens has spoken to the fact that you cannot increase the shift speed...
some claim the synthetic tranny fluid speeds up shifts in the auto maxima 4-spd... highly debated though.
I'm very happy w/ my shifts in my TL-S considering it's an automatic... 1-2 is much faster than the shift in my Maxima.. as are all other shifts...
try driving another automatic (as mentioned by the 330i owner) and you'll see how quick the Cl_S/TL-S shifts really are...

ahhh, just another feature of the car you guys think needs work. go check out every other sportshift on the market, you will then appreciate how fast ours is.
oh yeah, my lexus gs4 has the slowest response of all. first of all, you dont control each gear seperately. if i put it in 4th and then punch it, the tranny will downshift. on the tl, you put it in 4th and punch it, the tranny keeps it in fourth.
the acura system is pretty good compared to the rest.

I'm sorry I didn't mean to "mislead".
I meant mine is fast because I'm having it shift as fast as it possibly can.
Yours appear slow because you are experiencing an [unnecessary] delay.
So how about those numbers? In "seconds" please......

OK so what do we have to do to make this thing shift faster?
i talked to a macanic at the acura dealership and he was saying tis slow cause the cpu looks at your speed, rpm, throttle and all that crap before it shifts

1. Forget about getting the box to shift faster, it would need a ECU add-on or ECU reprogram and would not help the longevity without $$$.
The +/- topic came up some time back, and Astroboy reversed the directions (+/-) on his TLS’ (perhaps it was his CLS’) SS.
There is a pin extractor that is available from Honda and there are two pins on the back of the ECU (behind the center console) that can be swapped to allow a "swap" in +/- to -/+. It is not hard to get at…
You might want to get a quote on the time to pull the shifter apart vs. just pulling the connectors on the back of the ECU and swapping a couple of pins
Here is the connector info:
On connector "E” (20 pin 2 row connector on the back of the ECU), there are two pins: E18 (orange) and E19 (yellow). The E18 is the S-M- signal and the E19 is the S-M+ signal. Honda has a pin tool that allows for repair and/or pin removal (swapping). You just need someone to swap E18 with E19 and E19 with E18 and you are all set.
Note: the E connector is the only 2-row connector; the others (A, B, C & D) have 3 rows.
If you get a cheaper quote for pulling the SS assembly apart -- enjoy
