Spirited driving comments w/ SSRs Yokohama ES100

I did some driving in the backwoods of the mainline area around Gladwyne in PA. Very curvy roads with elevation changes and sharp braking and turning. Short parts of it are similar to the Dragon's tail in GA. So i'm talking about standard turns etc.,

Absolutely unreal how this car handles. Understeer is eliminated. The car's limits are extended more than one would think so initially it seems like the car is worse but push it and it just digs in and grips! Only suspension mod i have are the sway bars. I can only imagine what kind of difference teinSS would make.

For the rest of the 6speeders. Get some wide rims and some extra wide tires. You will be rewarded!!!!!

Good to hear. I just changed over to the 225/17 ES 100s wrapped around GT1s. I find these tires follow the tire grooves on the road. I'm running 38 psi now, thinking about 36.

maybe i should try some new lighter rims, other then my stockers, my car handles well but the rear gives out eventually, very scary especially when i hit some of the switchbacks tonight, i went about 65 on a 25 mph turn and 55 on a 15 mph, the 15 mph turn was very scary, my car was drifting out of control, lets juss say i wont do that again, i need some more suspension mods now

65 in a 25 and 55 in a 15... wow that's cool... can't wait to see the pics when you roll your CL. Reckless driving is so cool. :flamer:

On a lighter note. I can't believe the difference in handling from installing my H&R Sports and Tokico Blues. Body roll is significantly reduced. I've heard some people say the sways made a night and day difference, others told me they couldn't even tell they were different than stock. I'm still on the fence as to if I want to purchase them or not.

yea def they do "track" alot. But with wide tires i guess it just the nature of the beast.

sways do make a diff but the shocks are so so important and not emphasized enough in dicussion about suspensions, IMHO. Sways do make a diff. Get them and the handling will be that much better.

Don't be stupid!!!!!! Understand the limitations of the car. AT CLSs handle OK...but the front heavy nature of the car will easily bypass an mods done. THe limited slip diff is the key. Of course everything works as a package.

ES100's are a decent tire for the money. The grip pretty well in the dry, but wet weather performance under 50 degrees is poor. I used them at the track once and they understeered a lot and melted.

lol those would be some MONSTER tires.

Yea i could. And the load rating would also still be at 95 so it'd be in spec. Perhaps next time muhaehae

revs would be abotu the same as stock. Although a drop would be out of the question.....probably won't drop it anyway. We'll see

245s are HUGE. That would increase the sidewall almost a 1/4". Most likely would rub... well maybe not, he's on stock springs. Tough call.

Did you consider Kuhmo MX's? They are cheap and are one of the best tires on the market.

yea but after reading some comments on the khumos i decided on the yokos. I think it was a sizing issue as well. I wanted a lot of rubber on the ground.

Stock 215/50 diameter is 25.4"
245/40 is only 24.7" in diameter.
245/35 is even smaller at 23.75"

WAY too small.

He got the right size. Right at 25.3"

yea i'd love to but just don't wanna spend the $$ I had the comptech before and although it drops the car i don't like the rake look. If i were to do it i'd get the teinSS w/ revalved for a higher spring compression so the it matches the weight of the CL. Maybe next year we'll see.

Same overall diameter give or take .05" but over 1.2" wider and .1" taller.

BIG tires for a CL-S
