sound proofing

Does Dynamat have any competition? It's hard to believe there isn't a cheaper competitor to them with similar results. I'm looking to do my rear deck and rear seats. Any idea how much i would need?

and if you can thing of any other spots that would benefit from dynamatting, let me know.

I know of two other products out there on the market similar to Dynamat:

Scosche Accumat
Cascade Audio

Do a google web search on them, but I dunno know about cost. I have a Dynamat extreme door kit (2doors) I never used still in my garage, if your interested, I will look to see if I can find it.

catapuggy1, have you installed dynamat before? if so, where you pleased with the results? Someone on here said that they did the rear deck and it made a huge difference.

Yeah, I'd be interested in that door kit. PM me if your able to locate it. no rush, as i'm not planning on doing this until thanksgiving weekend.

There's something called "alligator skin" or something like that. Its cheaper than dynomat and works just as good. ONe side of it looks like asphalt and the other side actually looks like alligator skin.

I installed some Dyna, on the rear deck, installed some Infinity Kappa 6X9's, man, shit still rattles! I look all ghetto, got t-shirts and shit stuffed in the back corners to help it from rattling, I give up! I think the rattle comes from the rear deck brake light. I layed a nice sheet under the whole rear deck, good for sound, but nothing for rattles. Good luck, let me know what you did, I will try it, cause I am tired of getting in my back seat to try crap that doesnt work!

Cascade is amazing. It molds to any shape and stick really well.
And best of all.....IT DOESN'T SMELL. Dynamat stinks.

Also try RAAMAT.

they are teh people with that gatorskin joe mentioned www.cascadeaudio.com: seems like it's the heat.

GatorSkin is the perfect entry-level damping material.

GatorSkin is a 70 mil thick, butylene rubber based vibration damping material that offers excellent performance for a fraction of the cost of other products. GatorSkin, a moldable product, is ideally suited for irregular door and floorpan applications. GatorSkin does not produce a harsh tar-like odor like that of competitive asphalt based products. The heavily textured damping sheet may be applied to sheet metal, fiberglass wood or plastic surfaces without the use of any special tools.

Price

VB-2 GS
Single Sheet

$44.00

beerknurd,

Just 6x9's, the car is a lease, I don't like it too much anyway, I would'nt keep it. But the sound improved greatly, good highs. But coming from an ol' Basshead, it still sucks. Go with the sub. I just don't want to put that kind of work into it if I am going to give it back after the lease is up. I am too lazy, I will even leave the Infinity's in there.
