Sorry .. but our CLS is wimpy!

Yeah..

I took a 145 degree curve at 60 MPH ( posted speed is 40 MPH) and my CLS drifted to the outer limits (understeer forcing a slowing down or ehm... not going any faster.

Second, 30 mins later, It was moderate traffic on the HW. I saw a convertible Porsche. (New Porsche dealer is just 1 exit away). Did not know what kind of Porsche.

Usually, I do not play in traffic, all what I wanted to do is keep pace and get close to this little cat.... He decided to play, I was doing 80 and he just start pulling away fast, I dropped to 4th and tried to keep pace at 90-100 MPH ( I did not floor it due to traffic), the little porsche decided to zoom away, he just took the right most lane (an opening) and disappeared effortlessly... I just coasted down to closing-in traffic speed..

I guess I need to have an NSX or a ZO6!

Porsche anything and Acura CLS is an apples and oranges comparison. Since the lid was cut off that was probably a Boxster. No serious 911 driver has the lid cut off! Anyway . . ... my brother-n-law has a boxster (non S) and my bone stock CLS kicks its butt in the motor department. In handling the tables are completely turned!

Acceleration in 4th and in triple speed is not the strong point of the CLS.

you just need a big wing for downforce then you could take those turns way faster, something like this

One point to consider. The handeling of the auto and 6 speed are significantlyh different. Not saying the 6 speed could take that 145 degree turn any faster but it certainly does not understeer nearly as much.

Yes, you need to have a NSX Z06 or a Porsche

I need one too. Now, all I have to do is find the money for it, and keep the CLS at the sdame time

Its evident that the handling on the CL is not the best in the market thats obvious. Stock or modded, I feel that suspension and handling were the worst parts to the CL.

0-110 MPH is great after that it it just dead on it face. If we had the option to have a 6-speed or a better tranny 5-speed with 1.25:1.0 Third, and 1.0:1.0 for the 4th and the current 0.65:1.0 5th. The new ECU will skip 4th to 6th under street driving and light load.

I agree, the cl-s has winpy handling. MY stock gsr was a way better handler than my modded cl-s. . But it was close to 700 lbs lighter and better balanced.
I think Acura shot themselves in the foot with the CL-s. It has just enough performance to make you want more and no suitable acura to replace it. This is the reason why so many cl menbers are jumping ship to nissans and infinitis. Hope Honda turns it around quick and gives us a good looking performer coupe soon.

I don't know about that, i've had people drive my car and tell me how well it handles, alot better then most other fwd platforms, also if you set up the suspension right it can be a good handler. But yes, it'll never be as nimble as something like an RSX

1. with yer stoner headers, what times r u puttin down????

2. the heavy rim/tire weight would not b so bad if u had Koni's...even with sways (and springs also to a degree), the car feels a bit boaty...Koni's solve that problem REAL quick, even at their softest settings...i can now take turns at speeds i'd NEVER try before

3. is it possible yer Nitto's just can't get hot and sticky enough b/c u live so far north???

4. anything heavy in the trunk???

he probably just hit the turn wrong, not going into it right can really throw you off and send you into massive understeer

nash,
looking at your mods you need some suspension work. too much focus on the power, not enough on susp? anyways, yes the handling sucks stock. but if you through some springs and shocks in the mix, you are already doing much better. that is what you seem to be missing. with that combo my car is ten times more stable and can take anything i throw at it, well to a sane level of course.
anyways one last point i want to make is that the way you take a turn, the road and the contact point of your tire all play roles when cornering.
sometimes i get lazy with the smooth driving thing so i make sudden shifts in momentum at high speeds. result, i can get my ass out (susp. has been set up for oversteer) without much speed. now, if i take the turn smoothly, no abrupt steering movement, and a slower change in direction, i can push the car fast and still maintain stability. i think the comptech bars and stock suspension arent a good mix. any track goer knows that susp. is greatly impacted with the shock/strut/spring rate/stifness/ overall length of spring/center of gravity and the suspensions rebound abilities more than anything else. strut and sway bars have more of an effect on the chassis, and can make a stocker handle better to some extent but it doesnt give the car the planted feel when you decide to manuever.
come on nash, your a smart guy, now go get some springs (preferrably h&r oe or reg. sport) and tokico illumina shocks!

power3dfx,
Very Informative! Thank you.

Now what do you recommend.
1) Which Springs: Eibach, Comptech, or H&R?
2) Shocks: Koni Sport or tokico illumina shocks?
3) Eiback Camber Kit or no need?

still driver error though, but suspension would help you out greatly

It's not about just hitting the apex, it's about shifting the weight of the car properly along w/ other factors
