Soon to be 2001 CLS owner
Been reading the forum for a little while to get informed about a good deal I have fallen upon, a 2001 CL type-s Gold (copper?) color.
The car is in mint condition, has 96k kms (60k miles). I don't know the mods but it seems to have quite a few, lowered adjustable suspension (height and damping), Vtech controller professionnaly integrated in the dash, Air intake, stainless steel mufflers (perhaps whole system... to be verified), momo steering wheel and shifter, perforated performance rotors upfront (calipers?) ... also extra set of wheels with winter tires. there could be more but that is what I know so far.
The current owner is a guy I work with and he bought it with 18k miles on it from a mercedes dealer 3-4 years ago, the car already had all all this work done to it so he is no help in knowing what else is in there, he doesn't even know what a vtech controller is, he bought the car because he liked how it looked
He is getting rid of it because he has just had his transmission changed for the second time and he is sick of the car because of it's unreliablity.
Anyhow I have been in touch with the local dealer to verify how much more warranty (time wise) the car still has .... I still have until june 2007 or 64k kms (37k miles). I figure that is alright and worth my while. The dealer added, without me asking, not to worry about the warranty as honda change the transmissions beyond that extended warranty as they know they have a problem.
Anyhow getting my car next week
edit: forgot to mention ... paying 12K canadian for the car (10k US), windshield needs to be replaced and apparently the dealer told him a tie-rod and 2 ball joints are shot also.

Welcome to AZ!
Sounds like a hulluva deal to me. I'm curious to see this interior though. I wanna know what a MOMO steering wheel and shift knob look like in a CL???
The rotors you speak of are "cross-drilled" and the color you speak of is Sundance Gold. Better known arond here as PDG, or "Pimp Daddy Gold". Awesome color.
Post lots of pics!

I will post pics next week !
I'm quite happy about the purchase, I know about the transmission problems but as long as Honda fix it free of cost it's an inconvenience at most for me.
I'm replacing my ultra reliable 1992 Integra with over 200k miles on it.
The CLS will be a nice upgrade and a hell of a car for the price dispite it's tranny problems.
The only concern I have now is my wifes vehicule is a 2003 Odyssey .... hopefully the trannys won't be going at the same time ...

haha ... nah ... seing the Odyssey has twice the market value of the CLS at the moment I will hold off on that one for just a while longer.
Further reading in the forum and it looks like I should check that actuator though ... I drove that car one and I wasn't that impressed with the performance ...
Well Finally got my car last Friday and I gotta say this thing moves !
I drove the car last week prior to taking ownership and I knew something wasn't right ... I mean my Odyssey was just as fast as this car if not faster !!
I checked for the usual "actuator" problem ... but it was operating fine. Next was the Vtec controller, I had no idea how the thing worked and the prior owner didn't even know what it was ...
Downloaded the manual from the internet, played around with the controller to find that the Vtec engagement point was set at redline
Changed it to 4800.
So yeah, prior owner has been driving this car for 3 years without a Vtec
What a difference ! I have to say I am very pleased with ther performance of this car, faster than I expected !
Still not sure what other mods lie under the hood ... certainly all pullies have been changed with light aftermarket ones.
Other than that both lower ball joints and an inner tirod on the drivers side need replacing. and the rest if the car is showroom condition after it's had an engine clean.

Welcome and sounds like a nice buy
I would sell that Vtec controller and use the profits to buy something better. Its been proven that the stock engagement point is pretty much the best place for it.

As for the other mods they probably don't care much.
I know he had an "idle control valve" problem at one time. Throttle would stick. He had the dealer look at it and they couldn't find the problem, they simply told him that it was probably caused by the mods.
I think this is where one can loose out on warranty with a modded car. If the fix is straightforward and unrelated to the mods they will honor it, but in the case that they need to troubleshoot and they are puzzled to find your problem it gives them a good way out.

Besides the tranny, it's a great car. I love mine.
