Is something wrong with my car....or is it just that slow?
Last night I was coming home around 1:30 in the morning and this Mustang GT Convertable pulls up to me at the light. He revs it up so I get ready for the light to turn and take off the VSA. I get a really nice jump on the guy, but he pulls hard and takes my by about 2-3 car lenghts. The thing that bothers me is that he had a Convertable (more weight) and a passenger while it was just me in the car. Plus with my mods I thought I would at least be able to hang with the guy. Would this be the typical outcome of a race like this? Or is there something wrong with my car?

The only way to know for sure is to get your car dyno'd. Have you taken it to the track? The GT probably wasn't stock but either way a well driven GT will beat a CL w/mods. Was it a MT or an auto GT?

I know for sure it was a manual tranny just cause he was rolling backwards a bit when we were at the light. As far as what year it was, it was an older body style, probably between the years '93-'98...it wasn't the new body style. I'm gunna take my car to the track on Friday though to see what I can run. Would not resetting the ECU after the Header install cause my car to run slower? Thanks for the replies

when it comes to a mustang, you never know what you're gonna get. there's many a poser out there and many a real deal.
I've beaten down many a loud, loud, shaker hood wearing, 18" chrome wheeled GT, and been handed my own ass by a 15" wheeled, bondoed up POS more than once.
It's possible you found a nicely modded, or nicely driven GT (slightly modded GT).
...and this is in my 12 and 13 sec camaros, not the CL-S

I thought it was the actuator as well, but at the Houston meet a few days ago, we tested it and it worked fine. Who knows, with the Acura build quality it might have screwed up since then.

It very well could have been modded, or even an older Cobra....it just was making me wonder if my car was actually that slow. But I'll find out on Friday once I hit the track. I'll be happy as long as I can hit mid to upper 14's...

You should definetly be below a mid 14. I ran a 15.1 with my Accord V6 with the same mods. I am really interested to see what the AEM computer can do for the J-series engine, especially the automatics. The guys at Honda told me that the solenoid control for the automatic tranny shifts are so slow that if you could find away to get it to shift quicker you get substantial gains in time. So with the AEM you can increase shift speed and controll the shift point. I also know someone who did a stand alone on a V6 Accord and I was told they gained like 20 hp with it (although I didn't see the dyno). Someone should definetly try this AEM thing.

1200 bucks is not that bad! I got the COmptech Headers for my car when they first came out and they were like 1600! That AEM system is definetly the part to bring it all together.

Ok, not trying to be mean.... but you have a TypeS with mods, doesnt mean you are sure win on all cars... especially those older V8.... those aint kidding, even convertible CAN be fast.... i mean, think about it, how hard is it to make those car fly? Not very hard, just intake, header, exhaust, pulleys and cams, they could eat you up anytime they want.... so i dunno man, you lost to a V8 that is modded, what's soo suprise with that? just becuase you run low 14s? my friend has a 95 GT4.6, stock, he aint fast.... but $300 for headers, $350 for cams, $250 for some funny exhaust, and intake, and he is running low 13s.... so i dont see whats new with loosing to a modded V8

The "older" body style of the Mustang you're referring to was prolly the 87-93 Fox based 5.0.
You under-estimated your opponent as he prolly wasn't stock. Parts for those 5.0's are a dime a dozen.

5.slow
whoever you raced was definitely modded.. i had one of those mustang's. stock 87-93 5.0 1/4 et. is 15.7-15.9. with gears, airflow, full exhaust, headers, chip, pulley's, intake, throttlebody(ported), shortshift..est. 1/4 et is is high 13's- low 14's. so if it were a stock 5o you would have burned him

dude you're one terrible driver if that was all you could manage out of a fox mustang.
the 5 spd GTs were high 14s and the 5 spd lxs (due to weight) were mid/upper 14 sec cars from the factory.
hell even car magazines had them consistently in the 14s. dollar for dollar a way better deal than the f bod, or for that fact anything out there until 93 when the lt1 made it to the f bods.
having owned 2 and seen many run at the track over the years, including even now, stock or exhaust only, 'tired' ie 80-100k cars running well in the 14s at low to mid 90s.

Thanks for the replies guys! It's good to know that the older Mustang's are fast and it's not just my car. I was going to take my car to the track this past weekend, but the flooding down here kinda messed things up . Hopefully sometime this week I'll be able to make it to the track .

dude i think you got took by a debadged cobra or something. i raced my friend who has a S2K and i hanged pretty good with just an injen CAI against a stock S2K. he beet me by probably a car length?? and i know that a s2k can hang or beat a regular GT so that mustang was problably modded or a debagded cobra or something.
