Because you can! Oh, and it will help you if you want to find shortcuts; because it will raise your resell value a lot; becasue you can; because your friends, your s.o, and you will get high every time you use it; because you can just type in a business phone number and get directions right away; because you can; because it will recalibrate in the event you get lost and help you find your way again; because it looks awesome, adn runs great; because you can; because the Acura disk has all 48 contiguous states on it (a friend that is a M.Benz mechanic said the MB's system requires multiple disks - which you must purchase seperately); and finally.. because you can!

Situation:

Your with a buddy and he has a road map.

He thinks he knows where a machine shop is.

You and your buddy drive around for about 30 minutes looking for the place, which is behind a bunch of freeway overpasses and underpasses and one-way streets. You keep ending up on the wrong street and starting to get more and more pissed-off.

(Kind of like the "guy-thing" about not wanting to ask for directions...)

Navigator time:

Then you ask for the name of the machine shop, input the name into the "Navigator"; it returns the phone # and a set of directions that look nuts. You are now sure that you are in the twilight zone, but as you follow a ridiculous path, you are now sitting in front of the destination (about 5-minutes later).

(Based on a true story -- me and a friend in the San Fernando Valley...)

Wait a minute. You must be somewhat familiar with computers/electronics since your posting here. How can anybody who uses computers and likes electronic toys not get the navi. Sounds like a no-brainer. You'll probably wish you did if you don't so why risk it.

Actually just yesterday I was hanging outside my home when a delivery van pulls up. The guy has a wad of papers and maps in his hands, he's lost. He's asking me if I can tell him where (streetname here) is. I don't know the street myself so I motion him to follow me to my car. I ask him for the address he wants, punch it in my navi and in a minute the location is targeted. Using the zoom out feature I can show him the routes to take. He says "daym, I gotta get one of these." Next morning my car was gone! Heh heh the last sentence was a joke but the rest was not.

Oh and in addition to everything everybody already mentioned, when the radio says "at the tone the time will be 9:30", its amazing that at the tone those satellites make sure your time says 9:30! It's a gas, I use it way more than I should. I'm surprised that I have to use it so much. I must be an idjit. I guess I also go out to much.

LOL

Yeah, you can turn the volume down to zero!
There should be a way to replace the words with something else and a sexier voice:

For instance:
Now it says: "Make a U-Turn if possible"
Change it to say: "Hey stud, you wanna turn this shit around now?"

Now it says: "Bear right"
Change it to say: "If you go right, I'll let you spank me later"

All future mods in due time...

Well maybe you should think twice about the Navi. Somebody said it would be obsolete is a few years....so I probably have only about two more years left on my machine, then it's a $2,000 dashboard piece.

Still not convinced. Florida is a big grid. All the roads are parallel and perpendicular ( for the old people). Its real easy to find everything down here. I heard that using the climate system with the NAV is a pain in the arse.

Oh yeah; it's very painful. I freeze in the winter and I sweat in the summer because I can't manage to properly operate the climate controls. This car is too technical for me.

I guess it depends then. If you already know your way around the areas you travel most, then it's pretty useless. If you travel a lot to unfamiliar places, ever got lost, eat out at "new" places that you've never been, etc.. then get the nav.

I thought I wouldn't need it, but it comes in handy in many situations you'd never think you'd need it. For instance, you can look up any business or restaurant by name or category and not only get the address and route to get there, but the phone number so you can call ahead and make a reservation or find out if it's closed. I don't know where all the ATM's or gas stations are, so wherever I am, I can always find the nearest one, just in case I'm not near the usual ones I go to. When I was looking for a new house, I punched in the addresses of each house and was able to route a path that let me hit each house in the shortest path total. Looking for a friend's house for a party was a piece of cake. Not only that, if you were at a place previously and don't want to have to type it all in again (or print out maps again) just use the 'previous destination' feature to see all the old places you typed in. The A/C controls I never use on the Nav since I always leave it on auto-climate control.

In the end it's still up to you and what your daily commute and use of the car is.

Sorry, I just looked in the Acura Manual and it says, "People in big grids may not run the navigation system. The dealer must remove the master arming switch and administer a level 3 IQ test before allowing reconnection..."

BTW -- I too was up and around the some "unfamiliar" area up North of Los Angeles. We were hungry and wanted to list:

1. ATMs (got some more $$$)
2. Restraunts (had a great lunch)

Found both and while have a great memory for all of the places around my area, there are times when it comes in very handy. But, then there is that part in the manual about grid land -- Sorry!

Unfortunately that's not true. Navi loses 75% of it's value by the second year of ownership.

By it because you'll use it, not as an investment. My $.02 .. Your results may vary =)

It depends on your budget, and what you will be using your CL-S for. I am in the computer field, love all types of electronic gadgets, but passed on the Navi (it is a toy!). No regrets.
When I take long trips, I have another vehicle I use to beat up on. My CL-S is mostly for daily commute, and relaxing local weekend trips through twisty roads.

If you have the extra cash, go for it. If its pushing your budget, don't get it and save up for header/sways/exhaust/cai. You will get more enjoyment from the mods than you will from the navi.

I have my CL-S about 9 months now, and I only had 2 occasions that the navi would have been somewhat useful. Now the sways, I use them to their fullest every day

If you don't get it now, you can add a nice alpine unit later with pop-out screen, dvd, ext jacks, etc. Would cost a bit more, but you can tranfer it to other vehicles.

Chances are any high-tech electronic gadget installed in a car is gone/sold when you get rid of that car.

Ken, I agree, but what if when leaving the shop after the install a truck jumps the curb and totals your cl? In that case you would have it pulled out and installed in the new cl!

I added an alpine cd changer that connected to the honda head unit in my old integra. When I sold it, I kept the changer and gave it to a relative to use in their accord.
