well today Me and my buddies where driving back from deleware back to VA and on the way there the escort 8500 saved us about 2 times. (2:30 drive) ususally it doesn't false since I turn off X band in VA but i know md/deleware cops use also X so i left it on so it falsed sometimes. Well on the way back he said it was annoying as hell and threw the detector in the glove compartment of his 97 maxima. (still pluged in) We drive about 1 hour and get on 404 and rt 50. well at 404 I hear the radar detector beeping from inside the glove compartment. I couldn't believe what I was hearing so i took it out and saw the display, 1 mediam signal K. about 3/4 miles down there was one of those automatic speed measuring things, where when you pass it, it displays the speed. well i was like okay that was pretty lucky. He drives somemore and finally on 50. the radar detector is going off once AGAIN!! from inside the glove compartment. 1 strong KA!! okay i tell him to switch lanes and about 1 mile later a statetrooper chillen on rt 50 waitng for speeders at 10:45 at night. after the 2nd time the 8500 saved us while it was in the GLOVE COMPARTMENT!! he insistied we just mount it on the windshield. so we did the rest of the way. He'll be picking a 8500 with in 1 week after seeing it today.

I had decided on the 8500; I simply like the way it looks, and pretty much is equal in performance to the V1. Yeah some people will say what's $100, but I say why pay more for the same thing..

"But the V1 is built better.." So, I'm not going to be throwing it around or dropping it.. Maybe stuffing in tin the Glove box every now and then..

Thanks for sharing the experience.. that's pretty amazing.. wonder how it was able to work like that though.. I guess some radar can go through metal..

 

I've found the same thing with those road side speed indicators. I swear my 8500 goes off on those things when it's turned off. In Florida the FHP puts dummy K band transmitters on State roads. All that tax money spent just to irritate radar detetor users.

 

How long is the wait to get one now?

 

Optimum and ideal location is mounted in the windshield so you can see the display as well as sniffing out radar waves as far as away and when they are as weak as possible.

But remember that a radar detector detects radar when the radar waves make their way to the radar's antenna. Radar waves can penetrate nearly anything that is not metallic. Sorta like a portable fm radio, it will play your favourite radio station even though it is in your backpack, glovebox, wherever.

Just wanted to comment on this even though it seems sorta irrelevant and unimportant in light of today's events.

 

I am using a Bel 980 and love it. I usu do not speed around, but it is neat to nkow that there is a radar up ahead. I reckon that it has saved me at least once in the 2 months I have had it.

 

i am thinking of getting one of that too..but need to compare the price and function..now i am thinking of getting a V1...360 degree protected...
