Some dealers don't know jack
Some dealers don't know jack
I was getting my car appraised by a local dealer and the appraiser did not believe that the car was a TypeS. I took both the CL and the TypeS badges off the rear. I tried to explain this but the guy didn't believe me. I told him that the 17" wheels, white faced gauges, TypeS shift knob, perferated leather were TypeS only. Also showed him the actuator/butterfly valve. I finally convinced him to call Acura and confirm what I was telling him. I argued w/ the guy for a good 45 mins....even the manager came out and told me I was full of it....no business for that dealer!

If this place is really THAT stupid, try slapping your emblems on an old Accord Coupe and bring it in for a trade.
Maybe they’ll give you 20-Grand for your “Type-S” then.

If that little badge was the only difference there sure are a lot of suckers who spent more money for just the badge. :P

I thought of the VIN too, but they said they couldn't distinguish between the regular and the typeS.
TypeSKid - The dealership was a Volvo dealer in Denver (was entertaining some numbers on an S60...nice car, but not my style anyway...the S60R on the otherhand....)

There’s one digit that represents the engine code.
I’m not sure which one it is right now.

The engine block has its code stamped on it. J32A1 for non-type S and J32A2 for type S.
That's amazing, all the seat leather, the steering wheel leather, I assume the hand brake are all different. I guess they think you switched everything out. Put an NSX badge on it and say you want a new NSX.
I'd cut them some slack, it isn't an Acura dealer, it's a Volvo dealer. With some research I'm sure they'd figure it out eventually, but if a debadged Volvo came into an Acura dealership, would you expect the dealer to know whether it was the NA, low-pressure turbo, or high-pressure turbo based on seat trimmings and wheel choices?

Then they're obviously clueless on how to read our VIN. The eighth digit indicates premium vs type S model, and with or without navi, viz.: 3=base, 4=premium, 5=premium w/Navi, 6=Type S, 7=Type S w/Navi
