A solution to the 2nd tranny poor performance syndrome...

Well, yesterday morning I unplugged my battery for 2.5 hours. I plugged it back and started the car, proceeded to enter the navi/radio code. I then picked up my fellow board member Bigman and we drove onto the parkway. I pinned it up to 100mph and prettymuch drove the shit out of the car. I put the car into neutral at stoplights and revved to 3000 rpms and above. I returned home and shut the car off. today I started the car and WHAT A DIFFERENCE!
She is back to normal and is getting stronger and stronger by the hour. Now i know the real power gains from headers. Its funny since I had reset the ecu twice before and no differenc. I guess you reallly have to let the car sit for a while unplugged. Damn I'm happy again. lou, you want to race now?

Reseting the ECU does NOT matter, there is no adaptive algorithms or even memory to store your driving habits. There is only short and long fuel trim and that constantly changed.

It is all in your head...

you are absolutely 100% correct. it must be a figment of your imagination, or the rush of beating the shit out of your car again..or even the weather....colder days made my CL-S fly

I just came out of the car, the car is louder faster and meaner than before. It made the difference. I have been in his car on the coldest of days and it doesnt perform anywhere near the way it perfromed on a 40 degree day like today. The fucking thing gave me whiplash at 60 when he gunned it. It's out. There are other people that have reset the ecu and have felt the difference. I have felt a difference before too.

Is it possible to have the dealer keep the old ECU rather than replace it?

rondog, I noticed the same symptoms as you after my transmission was replaced, it was right back where she used to be within 2 weeks.

well, I am just happy. Just came back from a quick drive, man is that thing fast. It even makes a different sound in Vtec. I had this problem for about 1 or two months and the car was not improving at all. then I did the ecu thing yesterday and the car is totally different. Lou, I'll let you drive my car when you come down, you'll feel the difference. She jerks your head back and accelerates hard from 80 mph.

you guys wouldn't happen to have a torque wrench maybe you guys can help me install my TITANIUM strut bar.

Nashua,
There isn't any proof. Don't give me what Scalbert asserts because that is incomplete data. There isn't an DIAG tool right now that let's us see everything.

Actually there is solid proof, the Federal mandated OBDII requirements. This provides specified functions and response times to varying emissions controls. There are only two variables the engine controls, fuel and spark; that is not debatable.

The fuel supply is required under the OBDII specifications to use short and long term fuel trim control. These can be read by any scan tool. So there is complete data verification there.

The other parameter is spark or ignition advance; that is also visible through any scan tool.

So both ECU controlled parameters are visible through a scan tool; both of which are mandated to be visible due to OBDII requirements. Also, disconnect on the dyno and see if there is any significant change, can’t get any more verifiable than that.

how much mileage u have on the car????

how long have u owned the car too????

this ties in to my earlier question of fueland fuel injector treatment as possible signs of lagging performance

I got 21k now, tranny replaced at 18.5k, and the car is insanely fast right now. I am soooo happy with the performance. i don't know how long I can go without getting a ticket. I guess thats what happens when your car performs like crap then it totally recovers. I look at my speedo and I have to deliberatly stay under 80mph. I ht 100mph and gave it gas and the car tugged me into my seat and kinda did a bounce off the tranny so muchthat it felt like I was going to break it. I can't wait to get CAI. later

yo, Lou. I am down for a friendly recording as long as you and Rondog peace it up and stop talking crap to each other. I have never been in your car with your mods, but i can say that Rondy's car is faster than it has been in months. I can imagine how your car perfroms with the light wheels and other mods. So to settle the war lets just get together, you guys can have best of 3 runs, then loser buys beers and we call it a night. Sounds good right. Lets do it already.

Rondog is the man and we are at peace unless he's at me. I told him we can race and I know he will beat me if his car is running faster than before cause i could barely keep up before. Im getting my headers installed next week so if weather permits we'll do some runs all in good fun. I know he is busy with work you two do some awesome work together and there is no wonder Rondog's ads are in the most popular magazines I'll let him know when and if it fits all of our schedule we'll do it or why don't you guys go to E-town on March 8. They are having a IMPORTS -VS- DOMESTICS drag wars that day and it would be perfect if Rondog can represent with his monster Cl-S.

yo Bigman his car is really running that much better after reseting his ECU. I wonder if they changed his ECM or something I am glad he got his car driving normal again cause that would of driven me

yo, there is no beef at all, now I am as happy as can be since my car is back to normal and I got a few big jobs commin in this month. I'm on cloud nine right now. I just took a drive to the A&P for some juice and shit for wifey at the drop of a dime. I am dying to go to E-town. lou, we got to get up and put in the AEM. Come down to install your headers at redline and you can test drive my car. It was fun, just came back from late nite driving around town. at one point, the car barked so hard into second that the car had massive wheel hop and I almost lost it.

This thread is stupid because we all know if you drive the car hard, no matter what trans is in it, it will adjust and give you better performance. Has nothing to do with the trans. Next time you get in the car after leaving it off for a while, it will be "slow" again.

[sarcasm]Wow, massive wheelhop in second! Must be the battery disconnect/reconnect that made your car more power.[/sarcasm]

Come on Rondog, you're smarter than this.

I'm tellin you, after the 2nd tranny was installed, my car was soooo slow that I was disapointed. Of course i drove it slow for 3 days or so hoping the install went as planned and nothing would break. As I started to drive more aggresive and pushed the car harder than ever, she still seemed like something was wrong. I thought it was the actuator, or the intake was leaking or something. the day before I reset the ecu my car was making all this fuss and slower than ever yet I was pushing it harder than ever. The day of and after I reset the ecu, the car was a totally different animal. I mean to say, no matter how hard I drove it before, it was not improving at all. A day after I reset it, She was faster than ever. If you look at my other threads and I'm sure you've heard me complaining, I was not experiencing VTEC or upper rpm acceleration. Even with headers I could barely beat a stock type S. Now I know that i am faster than stock and thats all that matters to me, i've never been so anxious to just drive around town. I guess you can't make judgements on others based just on your own experiences, thats just ignorant. later
