so uhh... I bent my rim afterall :(

well... yall remember my altercation with a pot hole the other day that cause my tire to blow?

well, that was thursday... I got my car back with a new tire on Saturday.

welp, past 2 days i've noticed a huge amount of vibration...

called the speed shop where i got the tire... asked AJ if i could come in tomorrow to get the tires balance checked.

he goes, "sure, but uhh... didnt Adam (sales) tell you you wheel was bent???" I'm like... uhhhhhh... noooooooooo.

Turns out the inside of my rim was bent and AJ had to straighten it out.

He thinks thas prolly why I'm gettin all the vibration.

So nonetheless, Im getting the tire rebalanced tomorrow, and putting that wheel on the back, then placing an order for a new wheel

Fuck. I'm so pissed bout this... mostly cuz I thought I was in the fuckin clear! heh.

damn man...that's no good.

I really really want to get rims, but I fear that the roads around here would tear it to pieces.

I mean, just running on stocks has gotten me close to a bent rim already. I can't image 35 series.

What about getting it repaired?
There is a place near me that does this and I’m sure there are places up near you.

whats involved in repair beyond straigtening it?

my wheel is back to straight... hopefully rebalancing will solce the vibration.

either way tho i just dont feel right riding round on a fixed bent rim.

then again, i spent all winter on a stock wheel that was straightened after being bent.

I should would like to thank the city of Scottsdale for its wonderful roads. I have yet to hit a pothole, or ever see one, since I put my rims on. Even during construction they keep the roads smooth. I've been to Manhattan and if the roads in your part of NY are anything like theirs, I give you major props for driving on 35 series tires everyday.

You guys rolling on 19's had better have deep pockets. Unfortunately, most of the time you don't see the hole that gets you until after you hit it. How much fun is it to drive around looking for pot holes to dodge.

I will admit though that I love the look of the 19's. It's just too much drama and money for me. I will just live vicariously through you guys.

Come to NH where we actually have winters and some potholes can measure up to FIVE INCHES deep (not joking).

NH never paves their roads. Some have gone from paved to being dirt roads from neglet...it's freakin' ridiculous!

See if there is a Wheels America or something up there. They repair and refinish wheels for $100 a wheel and they look bran new afterwards.

heh... same here. Northeast sucks.

the pothole that did this to me? over a foot deep... just wide enough for the wheel...

im AMAZED i didnt scratch it.

and all you people worryin bout the 19's GET OVER IT. Like I said... I've gone through 3 stock 17's...

So your gonna bend your wheel no matter what... but umm... it just cost more to replace the 19s

The roads here in Atlanta were bad but now are getting better. The new mayor created what she called the "pothole posse" and a hotline to fix all the potholes in the city...all in the first several months that she was in office. I hardly see any potholes now!

...those 19's look sweet , sorry to here about the bent rim though.

Soopa,

You might check with the DPW responsible for that road and see if they will pick up part of the tab. I remember about 5 years ago there was a monster pothole on 287 near the Tappan Zee bridge that one morning took out 12 cars - they all got flat tires on the spot. The highway commission paid the tabs for towing and repairs because they new this one was not your ordinary pothole.

Now I would expect them to blame some on you and your 19's but maybe they would provide some compensation...

If the guy did a decent job straightening the rim, get a Road Force Measurement balance.

Go to http://www.hunter.com and look at the info on the GSP9700. There a tab at the top of the page that allows you to put in your zip and locate one, at a business, in your area.

I swear by this machine. It checks the dia. of the rim and the tire, applies a road force, measures vibration, and then tells the tech exactly where to place the tire on the wheel, and then where to put the weights.
