So many stupid drivers on the road!!!

Yesterday I barely avoided an accident when a jerk made sudden lane change. I see more and more stupid drivers on the road today and it really bothers me.

I believe most people can drive OK and I'm sure all CL drivers in this forum are excellent drivers like me. However there are small percentage (depending on where you live) of people who should not be driving at all, Period! I honestly believe that most auto accidents are caused by these small number of stupid drivers and they need to be taken out of the equation, one way or the other!

One of the biggest flaws in our society is that it try so hard to punish the speeding drivers instead of those who are real treat to others. Not all speeding are bad or even dangerous. How can they set one generic speed limit to be applied to everybody in every condition while everyone has different driving skill and different car? A guy with excellent driving skill in his capable car (like BMW, Mercedes or our CL-S) should not be ticketed for driving 80 mph on a wide open highway in a clear day. Instead the 60 mph drivers on the first lane of busy highway is 100 times more dangerous to other cars by forcing them to tailgate and make angry lane changes.

Because everyone is so paranoid and scared about the speeding tickets, people are spending so much time looking down at the speed gauges instead of looking at the actual traffic! I want people to keep their eyes on the roads, not their instrument panels! In a perfect world, there should be no speed limits and people should be able to decide how fast they can drive. But we are not living in a perfect world, so be careful out there and watch out for all the morons and psychos.

I agree 100% with you.

Last week, this old guy [bald and grey hair] in a POS Mirage pissed me off so bad. He was tailing REALLY close me so I drive the same speed as everyone else on purpose [I was in the slow lane, too]. It seemed like he was an inch away from my bumper -- if I braked just a little more then he would've rear ended me. So I finally speed up to get off the exit after the airport tunnel [two-lane exit]. I was REALLY pissed so I didn't let him over to my lane [when he slowed down, I slowed down, when he accelerated, I did too, etc.]. I guess that was partly my fault. But, he played along...at the last second, instead of slowing all the way down, he floors it and is still next to me, while I'm just cruising. He literally almost rammed his car into mine [I mean if I stuck my hand slightly out of the window, it would've been chopped off!] I swerved off the road a little, almost hitting the median. At this point, I'm suprised he had the balls to do this with his little Mirage [although he did act like he owned the streets -- he probably owns a Ferrari or something for his weekend driver]. Well, this little game of chicken got even bigger, as I steered left and right just to scare him back. We were even closer than before. He was holding onto his handle bar with his left hand, the steering wheel with his right. Occasionally he switched to flip me off 9-10 times. I found this very amusing, but very scary since he could've crashed by not holding onto the steering wheel at all times. Well, I finally let off and he gets in front of me. I also tailed him for a while, flashing my high beams 9-10 times [my HID's were also previously on]. At the same time he was flipping me off, hahah...I switched over to the right lane, but he wouldn't let me. He switched whenever I switched, and for a little while he drove in BOTH lanes. What an IDIOT! This little incident finally ended when he had to make a left turn. I was a couple of lanes away from this guy, but parallel to his car. He was staring at my car the whole time, like he wanted me to roll down my window, since he couldn't see through my tint. This guy has got some balls because I could've had a gun and he wouldn't have known. When the light finally turned green, I roll my window down and give him the peace sign along with a laugh [even though I thought it was scarier than funnier]. To my suprise, he just smiled back. I wish I had a video camera though, the whole thing was quite an adventure.

Moral of the story: Just ignore these stupid, careless drivers. If they appear to have road rage, just stay out of their way. Let them go. It just isn't worth it to say "I win" because in the end both of you might lose...

Patrick

I agree, people spend more time keeping an eye on their speed and looking out for cops than actually concentrating on the road.

I unfortunately live in Miami and have to deal with a-holes that can't drive every freaking day.

Whereabouts in NoCal are you? If you're in the bay area I'm assuming you're referring to the fact that there may be lots of computer/electrical/mechanical engineers in this area but not a single civil engineer? Have u ever been somewhere where traffic stops for no reason then speeds up to stop yet again?Oh wait, we have that here! Are you referring to the fact that most ppl who drive up here have no idea on how to merge and that taking an exit 50 feet from the fast lane ins't a good idea? Oh wait, how about those SUV's and minivans that decide it's allright to be driving in the fast lane? I don't care how fast u drive, an SUV or minivan doesn't belong in the fast lane. Oh wait, how about buses and freight trucks that think they belong in the fast lane too? You're rigth about everyone gettign all worried about the 5-0... I don't understand why ppl need to slow down when a cop is giving someone else a ticket. If your ass is speeding and you know it, if you get caught, that's the risk you take and the consequence of your actions. What are the odds he'll PULL You over next? Why do we all have to slow down when there is an accident on the other side of the freeway? You know what the problem is here? It's not that there aren't enough freeways, not that people dun know how to drive, it's the fact that the mentality is that no one is better than you. You may own a 2001 8 series bimmer, but you have no right to drive 60 in the fast lane on your cellphone. Get with it, there are people better than u in this world and you don't own it. Everyday I make a commute from San Francisco to Palo Alto then to San Jose and back. I can tell you that Luxnite, you are right. THERE ARE NOTHING BUT MORONS inhabiting the roads. What good is it to have 4 lanes of freeway when everyone crowds the 1st 2 lanes? IT just doens't make sense. This is why I trust ppl who drive fast then those who drive slow and careful. The perosn driving fast is aware of his/her surroudnings whereas the person driving slowly isn't paying attention to squat and usually causes all the accidents. Until we make stricter guidelines for Licensing, I will watch out for myself and hope that you all do the same.

I can see everyone is pretty passionate about this topic, so am I. But after years and years and over a decade of this, I've learned to live with it. It's all within your control, 99% of the entire time spent fooling around on the road; road rage, stunts, shooting the bird, whatever. It's that 1% that is out of your control, that's where the problem is.

Here's how I see it: Cut the crap, stay out of it, be someplace else; otherwise you could end up unexpectedly dead. An auto fatality, killed in a horrendous car crash. What's worst is after they bury you in a box, the authorities call it an accident.

I believe that 70% of American drivers have no clue...my French teacher once told me that if Americans had to take a European driving test...90% of them would fail. Test conditions versus real life conditions are what create bad drivers. Can anyone honestly tell me that you drive at 25 or below in a residential district? Can anyone say that they fully stop at stop signs and look both ways and count to 5 in the middle of the night? Test vs. reality...that's the problem.

autobon, baby!!

here on Long Island, the WORST drivers are broken down into 3 categories:

1. chics (17-23 year olds). they are the absolute worst of the worst. they use reverse psychology (e.g. i'm gonna drive 55 MPH on the expressway in the left lane)!!!

2. adult women (see above)

3. senior citizens (esp. the ones who can't see over the steering wheel). around here, they're like 5 feet tall, weigh about 80 pounds, and they'll drive the Bohemith sized Caddy's and Lincolns!!

Don't forget the fact that they're on Prozac, Lithium, and any other drug you can think of. Too many retirees here in Miami.

good point. but between the tritium and MTBE in the water and noxious fumes in the air, u can see a permanent high and a slight green glow in seniors up here i know, im such a meanie, but it's true, they are such bad drivers...and u Florida people, i dunno how u can put up with them down there. whenever i see a car that has Florida plates, the car's in the left lane doin half the speed limit, and they get angry at us when we beep and yell at them!!

Chris

P.S. did i spell all that right?? ;-)

Tell me about it, they do the same thing all the time down here. They don't follow the "rules of the road" (like "slow traffic keep right," if someone flashes their lights at you, let them pass, etc...) I figure, if you can't beat them, join them, I cut them off every chance I get, even I really have no need to do so, make them pass their exits when they finally decide to get out of the passing lane, etc.

Hey now..... I beg to differ bro. Without getting racial or flamed, I have had the most trouble with the Asian drivers. Again don't get me wrong we have problems across the board.
The soccer mom's yip yapping on the cell phones are the worst.
MOST Asians need to realize just because your blinker is on doesn't mean it's clear to change lanes. And that lane... yea that one is for you to MERGE not stop....
I also trust the people who speed more than the ones white knuckled to the 10 & 2 position on the wheel.
It is pretty bad here with people in general not knowing how to drive.

Hey Rod, that's cruel but cool... I deal with those same people. I can't stand when trucks either like the Container delivery ones are in the fast lane, I mean what kind of crap is that? Next thing you know the fast lane is going like 50mph and you look to your right(at the slow lane) and Grandma & Grandpa are passing you at 55mph. The next thing you know you are stuck in the fast lane because the guy next to you in the other lane is right beside you and won't speed up or slow down so you can pass the truck up. It's like what the hell is going on with these Bay Area drivers?? (Excluding acura cl members, of course)

But like everyone says in the topic, it's better to be patient then to end up dead by a road rage person.

Yeah, incompetent drivers piss me off as well. The biggest problem is that 95% percent of the drivers do not comprehend the concept of:
Slower traffic keep right and using the left lane only as a passing lane. Also, common curtesy should be used by all drivers to move out of the left lane when there are people following closely behind, thus slower traffic move right.
As far as the worst drivers on the road, the award goes to older black women driving shitty old cars. These women DONT GIVE A FUCK, EVER. Not about their cars, about following road rules, or about other drivers. Stay away from them!

The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status or ethnic background, is that deep down inside, we ALL believe that we are above average drivers.

Also, the drivers with 2 or more people in the car belong in the freakin diamond lane. Not doing 60 in the fast lane. If I can get a ticket for driving in the commuter lane with only one person, they should get ticketed for not being in the commuter lane.

It might be cruel, but what they do to good drivers is worse.
And yeah, I gotta watch the road rage thing, especially in Miami, people are always pulling out guns on each other down here. They probably can't even shoot it right, just like they can't drive right, yet they insist on carrying firearms they can't handle in cars they can't drive. Even OJ was arrested down here for some road rage incident recently; now that's scary, OJ rushing you, knife in hand or not.

I feel it most in the Miami area though, I sometimes think it's the Latin population down here (even though I'm Latin, so don't start with the racial crap). I feel this way b/c once I get out of Dade County and am about half-way into Broward (most of the Latin population down here is concentrated in Dade) you notice people driving better. They give you the right of way when passing, you don't even have to flash your lights at them and they actually observe traffic signs correctly, like:
stop = stop, not yield
yield = yield, not stop
merge = merge, not stop and wait for an invitation to merge
green lights = go
red lights = stop

All this reminds me of the quote in someones signature that goes something like, "The level of intelligence on the planet is constant, but the population is increasing." Most of this damn population seems to be coming to Miami-Dade.

We shouldn't turn this in anything remotely racial. The fact of the matter is that there are bad drivers of all races. I personally think there is room for my bretheren to improve their skills, but that goes for everyone. You guys are right, there needs to be a test that's more reality than hypothetical.
As for bad drivers in general, it points back to the fact that a lot of people are frigid when they drive. You know what? If you're scared of driving, you shouldn't be on the road endangering the rest of us. If you think that everyone is too aggressive for you, then you need to find another means of transportation. These kinda of people have no right to be on the road. Driving under the influence is the same as driivng sober and having no control of what you are doing. So when they pull you over, remember that driving is a privledge and NOT a right.

Give it up folks. All that hate and getting your blood pressure up...it's not good for you (it will kill you). People are people and there are good drivers and bad drivers....all over and everywhere. I think I almost had a stroke over one road rage incident several years back; never again.

In most instances, I've learned to brush it off..otherwise, I would probably have had a stroke too...with all that commuting that I do..

No matter what happens on the roads, you should NEVER stop or get out of your car to resolve the conflict. Here is the true story that happened to my roommate a while back.

He was coming back from work and suddenly a big pickup truck cut him off. He was little pissed so he honked which was quickly replied with finger flipping by the two girls in the pickup truck. He was more pissed so he pulled to the side and asked them what was their problem. The two girls yelled him back with many four letter words. He asked them to pull over (Big mistake and he still regrets for doing this).

After they pulled over, they all got out of the car to yell at each other for few minutes. I think both girls were either drunk or high on drug because one of them slapped my roommate without any warning! But she picked a wrong guy to mess with. My roommate is 2nd degree black belt in Tae-Kwan-Do and he can kick some serious ass on an guy twice his size. When he got slapped, he instantly punch the girl in the mouth with his fist. She felt to the ground and ALL of her front teeth were knocked off! But she wasn't done yet. She got up and started spitting all her blood on his shirt!

He now realized what he done and he left the scene to come home ASAP. When I came home on that day, he was already calling lawyers because he knew he was in big trouble. Few minutes later, dozen police officers stormed our house to arrest him. I guess someone wrote down his license number and called the police. He was later charged with assault with deadly weapon because he has black belt in martial art. To make the long story short, he paid tens of thousand dollars for the medical and legal fees and he ended up spending 6 months in the controlled facility. It was not a prison but some kind of dorm where you can still go to work but not much more than that.

Lesson: NEVER, EVER get out of your car to resolve a road rage! Not worth it!!!

If you can afford it, get the BMW 7 series Protection (with full bullet proof option) and then you can do yelling and flipping fingers to all the morons on the road without compromising your safety. It can even stop .44 magnum bullet at close range! This kind of car will make the rich people to become more arrogant.

Just make sure you have a faster car than they do when you flip them off...

hey moomaster_99
He hasn't said what park..hey why can't you come back to foster city? Did you go racing down their streets or something? If it's personal I understand. My wife use to live there before we got married, the 5-0's are always hanging around Starbucks and seeing what they can nail you with.

Well, This asian knows that in Manhattan, blinker or not, nobody is going to give you any room to merge. So you just turn on your
blinker to inform them that you're merging, room or not.

Yes, I've tried waiting, and no, it doesn't work.

I know a bunch of the cops in Foster City (I live there). Some like me, a few others don't like me, but fuck em, the cool ones are super cool and enjoy their jobs. The pissed off ones, well, I just ignore them.

Hey, I guess my point is, you are ALWAYS welcome in Foster City! See you at the BBQ!

Oh ya, there are around 30 cops in foster city, and that's more than they need, they have 95% of the town covered 24 hours a day, NOT the place to be causing trouble. (We'll drive elsewhere for that! hehehe)

Do you go out to any of the clubs over there? If so, which ones?
