So I decide to test my full bottle of Nitrous...

So I filled up my bottle of nitrous and decide to go and have a little fun. I hit it in 2nd, pulls like a muther, hits 3rd then pulls hard again, but soon after the RPMs drop and car starts bogging. I pull off the freeway, hit a side street and car is spuddering and wants to die. Lights flashing, CEL=on, VSA=on, !VSA=on, ABS=on looked like a damn space shuttle with all those lights lit up. It dies a couple of times before I get home so I decide to record a short vid clip of how it sounds (like a freakin wrx w/exhaust). Lettin it cool off now b/c I could smell coolant ?overheated? Maybe I burnt some spark plugs??? Don't want to give any misleading guesses so I'll stop there, what do you guys think? Oh yeah, the exhaust also smelled rich as hell.

myPOSwrx

What the F happened???

Sorry, my CF hosting company is down at the moment. Hopefully they're back up and running by morning.

was this after using the full bottle, or just after the first use after filling?

go pull the code from the CEL and I'm sure that will point you int eh right direction. It could be a number of things, from destroyed O2 sensor from teh extra heat from teh nitrous, to blown fuse, to blown engine.

Read the code first of all. But also check the oil for signs of coolant. Also, check the coolant for signs of oil. Those are the first and simple steps to perform.

the line from the zex box to your fuel pressure regulator may have blown off. i had this happen on several occasions (not good).

I was testing a 100 shot at the strip and I clamped that hose down super tight (because it had been blowing off) and it exploded.

you will probably get the system too lean yada, i got that one the first time but i'm guessing it just sent your car into limp mode..

It really sounds like your car is running on maybe 4 cylinders and not all 6. Check all your plugs, check your oil cap and see if there is condensation on the inside. Take your radiator cap off and turn the car on and see if there are bubbles in your coolant. Make sure next time whenever you use nitrous or boost always get ngk plugs and regap em to a smaller gap. I cant stress this enough, i blew my honda del sol motor like that, when i had a JRSC and 55 shot nitrous. Good luck dude

At work now and not by my car and haven't driven it since last night, but I am praying for fouling plugs.

Blown motor? Serious ghost and scalbert? What are my odds of that happening? I only have the 75 shot zex kit. FP gauge showed increased FP boost so hoping it didn't lean out enough to blow the engine?

Thanks Matt, but checked those hoses immediately and all were good. I bought aftermarket akimoto hoses so they're much tighter and stronger.

Definitely gonna order the ngk plugs now. Matt, didn't you have the hyperformance plugs from zex?

Matt, I just saw your other thread and it said you were thinking about ik22s or maybe even as cold as ik20s. Let me know which one you got and how it's working out for you with your setup.

After checking the code and fluids, pull all of the plugs and take a look at them. It could be a blown out plug. I'd get them out regardless.

Is it a blown motor, we will need to see but I wouldn't assume the worst to begin with. Just begin the process of elimination.

sounds like my motor before it blew....sorry to hear......but again, do as what others had said and start eliminating other scenarios...

mmmmm......and I plan on using the 125 shot on the J35......makes me wonder now what it can take. Well, here's a question, what octane did you use? I know they say with a 75 shot you can use 93 octane, but I never use anything below 100 just to play it safe.

K guys, first off, thanks for all the input. At lunch I went out and got the Denso IK22's with at $17 a piece! Sucks living here all the way over in Hawaii. NOS is $6.50/lb. Tell me that's not ridiculous.

Plugs look sweet so gonna change those out when I get home.

I would get you guys the scan codes, but I cannot get the damn car to the local shop so gonna have to do trial and error first. Checked the fluids when I got home for lunch and all checked out just fine, no creamy coolant and no bubbles in coolant either. Hopin to pull some plugs with burnt electrodes

also, it's not uncommon for the car to bog if the car was running really rich if you have the wet kit. I know when my bottle is close to out, my car just bogs and sometimes wont make it to redline while running.

Basic chevron pump 92. Hope I don't have to send my block and heads in for pressure testing...

im gonna guess scorched valve/seats. doesent sound like a blown engine. theres no slap, only ping from the un burned fuel. how high did you rev the motor?, could youhave over reved it?

with the engine running that rough, alot of things go into limp mode.. the egr, iacv, iats, vtec solenoid, tps( which would make the vss, and abs lights come on.). is the oil light on when its running? if not then its not a spun bearing or scorched cam which is good news.

Engine shifted at normal RPM in D3, nothing over the normal. The oil light did not light up.

So I pull the plugs out, change all 6 of them. I think things are looking great since the plugs are destroyed as you see above. So I think, this definitely would cause my f'd up problems. So I start it up and suprisingly, NO DEALS, still runs like shit. I open the radiator cap and no bubbles, no oil. I turn off my car and open the oil cap and a bit of smoke starts to creep out, smells like burnt oil. Is this normal or a definite sign of a blown engine?

Looks like I may be the first guy to blow a 3.2 CL-S engine

oh god, those plugs look like complete shit. did you torque them in properly? if not, I definitely suggest doing that.

I know there is a way to pul the CEL code without using a scan tool, but using a paper clip or somethign similar and counting the light flashes. let me see if I can find it.

edit: here you go --- https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134111

I had Acura install my other plugs when they did my service. These plugs I put in I didn't torque, but just followed the directions on just turning them a 1/4-1/2 turn after completely seated. Maybe a little more.

Will try your ghetto scan code tool. Thanks Ghost

Ok, ghetto scan worked! Cool trick!

Got codes:

14: Idle Air Control Valve Circuit Failure
71-76: Misfires on all cylinders

Could only these two codes mean a blown engine?

I guess first I will have to check the IAC valve and IAC valve circuit since the ghetto scan tool doesn't differentiate 14s.

Then I will move on to checking the fuel pressure. Matt, you may have been close to right all along, just that it may be clogged instead of being completely off, we'll see.

My guess is that the IAC valve is not working properly and will have to be adjusted to let more air into the engine?

well congratulations on it working. with those particular codes, I would try the IAC valve problem first. It might even just be a blown fuse, so check that first before messing with the actual circtuit/valve.

I think your guess may be right on.

The bad IAC could cause some unusual characteristics but I wouldn't say that misfires on all cylinders would be the results. But you never know. Definitely check on the IAC circuit for a blown fuse.

Next, I would do one of two things. Drain the oil into a clean pan and strain it out looking for anything. And/or, perform a compression test. Both are relatively easy to do and can eliminate engine issues. It could very well be something electrical is messed up.

Oh, and those plugs were awful. Since they were relatively new I suspect something was not right with the nitrous. There was have been some serious detonation going on to put them away that quick.

Outside of engine damage I would also look for a destroyed catalytic converter as well.

Not the first, there have been a couple. But I beleive they were due to over revving.

The whole engine may not be damaged, but there is a chance that part of it is. But as mentioned above, don't assume yet. You need to look into several matters first.

I just wonder what happened to the electrodes and ceramic, they went somewhere.

I know of at least one that was blown and it wasn't due to over revving.

I walked into the service bay at Tischer Acura and he says "You see all those white marks up and down the cylinder walls? Yeah that's not a good thing."
