smoked by an se-r spec-v

One of my buddies just got the new nissan spec-v 6-speed. Pretty fast for what they are. Smoked my 2.3 cl with e/i/h by like 3 cars just to 65 or 70. I went out with him the other night and we beat a gs-t eclipse, rsx-s, 3.0cl, and a gs-r. All these had intake and a bit more except the 3.0cl. Wonder how bad the CL-S would beat it? Any cl-s race a spec-v yet?

CL-S should easily beat it and pretty badly. I saw a video of a 2k2 max racing one and it wasn't pretty. Awesome car for what they are though.

Ummm sure about that? Easy kill? What are your track times and mods?
I'm seeing a lot running 15.00-15.2 with intake only. From a dead stop they have a good chance from a roll an auto CL-S should be able to beat it.

Well a 6spd Maxima is faster than a Spec V no question as well as an auto Cl-S. I want to run a a 6spd Max for sure!

I ran a 14.8 at the track with 100% humidity. However I have raced a Spec V when I had just CAI and blasted him by 3 or 4 cars from 0-80.

Did you give him the jump first and you still beat him by 3-4 cars? Or did you jump first. Makes a massive difference in street racing.
If the spec v with intake jumped first I find it very hard to believe that you put 4 cars on him to 80mph especially if you only ran 14.8 as an absolute best time once.

We went from a red light so the start was about even with me having a slight edge in reaction time. BTW I had CAI and I think he was bone stock. Like I said I ran 14.8 with terrible conditions and everyone there ran shitty times. I'll be going back soon and I should run 14.4 to 14.5 all day.

yea spec v's shouldnt be compared stock for stock with the cls...thats like the q45 vs. cls. it was made co compete with civics and jetta, and it does an excellent job of that. personally i find the ride kind of harsh, but like mentioned, the aftermarked is real nice on it

I raced one at the track in my old accord and he ran 15.011. They are quick little cars. Should be a good race in my cls. I don't think I could put 4 cars on him up to 80 though.

i spanked one in my rx on the parkway in 5th gear without downshifting, or even flooring it.

I raced one bracket racing in the TL. He won because he ran .01 sec. over his dial in. Even with his headstart and a bad launch, I was at his rear door at the finish line. They're not bad IMHO.

03 3.2 CL-S 6 speed will run a 14.5
03 3.2 CL-S automatic will run 15. so a automatic would be a even match

I disagree. A CL-S is faster than a Spec V period, especially on the highway. Spec Vs are quick off the line because they have decent torque for a 4 banger. They should put up a good fight til about 50 after that a CL-S will walk away.

i was on my way home from a friends house in breax bridge LA'(like any of u know were that's at) and this kid probly 17 pulls up along side of me and revs on me, low and behold it was a black spec-v that had an aem cai lisc plate cover so i took off after him we got to a red light and he turned right and i turned right he hit it and i hit it.he had me by about a car length from about 20 and it stayed that way till we let off because of traffic up ahead. so from 20 to 90 he had me by a car length and it stayed that way. i guess its because of my auto and his 6 speed . i was suprised that i stayed that close to him

you folks tend to forget that the CL is a rather heavy car, so you got 260hp, how much of it is getting to the ground?

Hey lowboy, either your full of shit or he wasn't racing, because a spec would fuck your auto 2.3 up. Oh and by the way, 2.25" piping is like stock and all universal mufflers are 2.5"

If I lost by 3 cars you'd lose by like 5. Face it, our cars are slow.

Ok, first off you cant say a cl-s runs about a 15.0 and a spec-v runs a 15.0 with intake...........most stock spec-v's are lucky to hit 15's period, though some can, with intake only a few can hit low 15's.. Most cl-s run high 14's stock but some only run a 15.0 and some can get mid 14's with intake.

Im not saying a cl-s will smoke a spec-v but since we have an auto and its hard to mess up a race, a cl-s should win every time, stock or with intake.

OKAY-let me just add this note:

Straight from IMPORT TUNER
$1,033.04 intake, stillen muffler, headers
stock WHP = 147 stock torque = 156.9
MODS TOTAL WHP = 164.1 modded torque = 168.5

My good friend has a Spec V SE-R 6spd. and he has had no luck racing anything, much less my CL-S. Sorry the 4 banger will need a turbo or supercharger to catch up to us.

Sorry to bring up an old thread...but I have to clarify some things.

Someone said a spec-v is lucky to hit 15s? HAHA...stock they can hit 15.0, if you are a bad driver you should hit 15.7 at least.

With an intake they can get down to 14.8.

And someone else said "decent torque for a 4 banger". It has the most torque of any NA 4 cylinder out there at 180 ft*lbs. This car weighs in at 2700 lbs. Yes I know a 6 speed CL-S will put it to shame unless they mess up bad, but the autos should be fairly close until speeds reach 70 MPH +.

I drive an '03 TL-S and a friend of mine just bought a Spec V and I can on a regular basis pull 1.5 cars on him by around 65-70mph when I shift. No mods on either car at all. I hate pulling the numbers game because it depends a lot on the driver. Car-Stats.com:

2003 Spec-V 0-60 7.3 sec qtr in 15.6 at 90mph
2002 TL-S 0-60 6.2 sec qtr in 14.8 at 96mph
2003 CL-S 0-60 5.9 sec qtr in 14.6 at 98mph

I have yet to race one with mods so I can't speak for them. In one other thread I had said that I raced a turboed Spec V, come to find out I live relatively close to this guy and after talking to him, he has a 2001 SE that has a turbo on it, but he has been having a lot of problems with it which would explain me beating him. He has the SpecV emblems on it which led me to believe it was an actual SpecV.

stock for stock the cl-s should beat a spec v... the spec v is quick for and not just for a 4 banger its quick.. the spec v will keep up with a cl-s auto up to 70, after that the cl-s will pull up top...

Stock for Stock a cl-s would beat a Spec V...but let me put the difference in sticker price towards mods and we will see who wins. Ill be happy to run one of you guys now if anyone is in the Tampa, FL area.

wanna talk about money?? if speed is all you care about why dont you get earily 90s civic hatchback and drop SI engine and race that against the newer spec Vs....it'll probably be much cheaper than buying a new nissan.... i hate it when people come to an ACURA forum and start saying how we paid 30k for a car and that your cheap little car can KEEP UP with a luxo coupe....

Or to make a greater impact, take a mid to late 80's GT or even an LX5.0 which you could buy for $5000 (or less) drop $10,000 into it and see what the results would be.

I also hate it when those price comparisons are made as there can always be something less expensive and much quicker/faster.

No way.. I have an auto, and when I went to test drive the 350Z, I saw a spec V on the lot, and test drived that too, and was not impressed at all.. for 2.5L, I was expecting a lot more torque out of the four-cylinder.. Since it has no top end either... there is no way it can beat a CLS, even auto..

Allright...on the first post I have to disagree w/ one thing . You said u took an eclipse gs-t . This I have to call a b.s to . I had a 95 GS-T about 2 years ago w/ nothing more than intake...bro I used to smoke mustangs , stock CL-S's , GS-R's and even a 93 RX7 turbo . I know how fast these cars are . Maybe it was an automatic , or had a blown turbo , or maybe he wasn't racing . Anyways my friend just got a Spec-V SE-R...pretty nice little cars .

I'm happy with my car although I wanted a GS-R, but the Spec is pretty fast. I have beaten a GS-T, various Civic Sis and Integras, and I even kept up with a 330Ci, until I hit the merge lane and passed him. The aftermarket is strong but I cant afford all the mods I want. Btw I was just checking the board out because of the dumb blonde post in the other forum and I figured I would come see if anyone has ever killed a Spec.

Btw theres a guy that details cars at the dealership that I brought my car from with a Black 2.2 (I think) CL. I know he has an exhaust but not sure what other work he has done. What is a 2.2 running in the 1/4 with H/I/E?
