Hey pull_t - Yesterday I was forced to be in the middle of two stangs racing yesterday. Both the stangs were 02s or 03s and I was trying to avoid impact from them running me over. I decided to move over and play tag with them and i noticed that they were both black GTs and no cobra signs, but one had the tail pipes by the doors and the other had the usual tailpipes in the back. The mustang with the tails by the doors was some loud ass shit, and the other one was normal loud mustang. If they are both GTs why did dudes with the tails by the doors look so much nicer?????? Is that custom made or that's stock??? That was one nice as mustang.

TypeR - So i take it the saleen or Roush have significant more power or handling? Why would one pay more money for a roush or saleen if there is a cobra model?? IMO! Are they just for cosmetics or are they actually real improvements over the base GT?? Sorry, I am mustang stupid.

 

Roush STage 1 and 2 are just appearance. Stage 3 adds a SC and some other fun shit

It had the 03 Cobra front fascia and I could hear a posi blower.

I really don;t think he'd have heard the blower as he was an extra lane over and had his windows up, but as I pulled away easy on him, he had to know somthing was up

 

not just cosmetic i think you get some hadling upgrades and maybe some small power adders in the stage II

Ford must be doing something terrible to those Eaton blowers as they are normally silent. I've actually had a dBa meter near them at the Eaton plant in Athens, GA and they put out lower dBa levels that the engine does...

And this was turning 12k revs on the blower, less than what the new SVT will turn it. Kinda weird...

It is hard to hear the new style Eaton roots type blowers, particularly since they have the bypass open when at vacuum.

Well, the Eaton on the 02s is pretty quiet as far as a blown car goes. I as an enthusiast could pick it out, but Joe Schmo prolly couldn't. It is not loud by any means.

I assume you meant 12k revs on an M112. But that does get loud but not over the engine sound is what I was attempting to say.

 

Haha, I'm such a dumbass....12k on that blower is nothing. It actaully spins at ~16.5k with the pulley setup on the 03 Cobra.

 

16.5k on the M112 is pushing it and taking that unit way out of the correct abidiatic range. All of the charts from Eaton show a peak tested range of 12k revs on the blower:



One possible reason for hearing would be a potential attentuation of the sound in the intake tract...

Not true, Roush stage 1 is appearance only (and you can get it on a v-6 ), stage II includes a bunch of suspension stuff. Both are pretty lame IMO. The stage 3 is OK, but way overpriced when you can get a cobra for 10k less. IMO the body kit on all 3 series roushs' (distinction in emblems only?!?) is too flashy.

 

Um, I thought they were pretty good, since they are a professional racing team??? Check out the Roush 360R...

I haven;t taken my car to the track yet with the blower so I'll try and refrain from bench racing one of those. Let's just say I'm not overly worried about a car that traps under 110.
