"Skid Plate" or Bottom Engine Shield

I have been lowered for over a week now.
I'm a bit concerned with that big black plastic piece under the car. Is it pretty thick or ? It was beat up when I bought the car and I'm only making it more scratched up. I'm wondering if I can just buy a new one and install it for re assurance or added protection ? I mean I understand the oil pan is the main concern, and mines doing okay. It leaks a drop or two a day and isnt dented. My header has aquired a nice scrape too . I proabably havent scraped more than 7 times but still worried about my only car.

I have read on some threads in the TL forums that people have debated making a skid plate to protect it all but theres no where to mount it.

I mean, Maybe we can come up with a solution to this for once or what do you guys think ? Should I just be okay with it the way it is ?

The plastic splash shield isnt protecting anything. Im honestly surprised that your header got damaged, as the crossmember is lower.

You can build a skid plate. But with how low the car already is, if you hit something large enough to cause damage to the oil pan or j-pipe, its probably going to rip the plate off the car.

The cross member is slightly scrapped up.
The only reason the header hit is from the road, i was angled and it was un even.
So essentially, the splash shield and front bumber can smack the road quite hard and not hurt anything, its just the header and oil pan ?

That splash shield is just plastic. It is made to stop liquids from splashing up into the engine bay. It's not protecting anything from being hit.

You can drive the car without the splash shield without any problems. The front bumper cover also does nothing functionally.

So basically scraping the front end isnt even all that bad. It's just wearing away some plastic

Scrape: OK
Thud: Maybe not

Scraping usually just scratches stuff, without causing damage. However, if you bottom out over a rock or something, you can impale your engine/tranny. Then you have a problem.

Either way, if you receive that type of damage, that plastic piece won't do anything to stop it.

Just try not to bottom out, and don't worry about it.

While we're on the subject of scrapping I noticed today a weird scraping noise coming from under my cl. I took a look and low and behold the heat shield on the cat is hanging by a thread. I was about 10 minutes a way from home, so i decided to continue home and take a look at it in the morning, but before I could get home the vsa light came on d5 started blinking, abs light came on followed by the check engine light.

The weird part was that the car seemed like it lost power because when i got caught at a light and the light turned green, the car was very sluggish. Do you guys think the o2 sensor or the cat got damaged due to all the scraping from the cat heat shield? Btw I'm not lowered at all, and my transmission is working fine, just got it replaced not too long ago. Any suggestions guys?

Now I have something else to deal with. I was on my way to work, I was gonna take the tl since the cl was acting up, but someone decided to break into the tl. They broke the passenger side window, but they only took a flash light. They did the same to my girls car and the neighbors. People these days have no respect.

Wow, Thats irratating. They must have really needed the flash light.
I never have had anyone break into my car but I've had a rear end hit and run, that sucked too. knock on the wooden table I'm sitting at.

No one. There are very few parts for this car. Look for 6th gen accord parts, they might work

That seems like a 'tall order' if you are seeking a retail/aftermarket aluminium/metal skid plate for a luxury car. It's likely that you may have to have one locally 'fabbed-up' if you are looking to get the utility the OEM engine lower cover assembly, (#7) on the link below, provides.

Otherwise, inquire at the place below, they claim to have the only front 'skid plate' for the Honda Ridgeline in the U.S.

Burtman Industries
