Ant gave you some good advice. I'd take it...

Whatever they did, they messed-it up (exception being some awful coincidence).

Ask them, "Could you please tell me why you put in a new PCM/ECU?"

If the car just started doing this -- on its own -- the idle control valve would be logical part to consider.

Since they claimed they replaced the fuel pump, I wonder if they put in a dud pump or messed with the fuel pressure regular and forgot something. They don't sound too sharp...

Does it run OK if you’re off idle?

And, to be clear, you’re saying that the car sputtered from the moment you drove it away?

Basically drove the car home.... from the dealer everything was fine... noticed a slight sputter in the morning... thought might be something little.... Now going home... started the car at the offce.. and there we go... havent started it yet... but appointment is at 11:00 so leaving in 15 mins....

well ant thank you cuz u were right... it was the Idle air control valve.... spoke to the tech and he said he changed the ECU cuz they wanna prevent the tranny from break down... and I was like WTF... now for the brake vibrations I have to wait till the end of the week, cuz i can't take it in... to much work load... oh well at least it alive again.... The service advisor didn't know what to say... so i asked for the tech... wanted to know why all this was done.... in short... not a good explanation but i just wanted to get my car fixed, and get out there... will definitely be going to another dealer for my continued service...

I'll be damned, I mentioned the IACV, and they ordered me an EGR valve, which Ant told me in my thread that the EGR valve will do nothing for the idle.

What difference does the new ECU make?

From hands on perspective -- I don't know. I still have the original.

However, from Acura's "engineering notes," it has modified programming to change the shift operation to reduce the wear on the clutch packs.

When ever you shift, the ECU sends a signal to one of three solenoids. The solenoids don't just "bang" on and off -- the "speed" of their transitions can be altered.

The solenoids could do the equivalent of "dropping the clutch" or "slipping a clutch" on a manual. And, there is are clutch packs for each gear, so you want to release one and engage another just right. (Image what would happen if they both 2nd and 3rd gear were trying to "slip" or "grab" at the same time, all the time.)

makes sense. I have had mine almost 4 years now, and don't remember them ever mentioning that they did that for any of my services. Wonder if they did. So this wouldn't decrease any performance would it?

Acura made note of this in their docs they sent to the NHTSA, and they claim it doesn't hurt performance. For example, if you wanted to make the shift a bit harsher, you could trade-off a bit less "slip" and smoothness for longer clutch disk life.

A. May 3, 2002
B. Hydraulic pressure timing characteristics at shift were changed to reduce the thermal loading of the clutch.
C. To reduce heat generation in the third clutch during hydraulic pressure switching at shifts.
...

AND

P788:

ECU change info (COLD):

Previous shift when cold was 6200 RPM on 2 to 3 shift. Modified (new) version is now shifting at 5700 RPM. (THIS IS FOR COLD OPERATION [ATF COLD])

G-force went from 0.100 (pre-mod) to 0.112 (post-mod)

ATF temps around 30 deg. C

P789:

ECU change info (WARM)

Previous shift, when warm, was 6426 RPM [measured] during 2 to 3 upshift. Modified ECU now has shift at 6369 RPM [measured] during same 2 to 3 upshift.

G-force went from 0.110 to 0.130.

ATF was 83 – 85 degrees C.

going in friday to have them to:
1-- put in the new EGR valve
2-- Repalce Sunroof glass, due to ticking noise (I found the damn cause of the ticking, it is the wind deflector that pops up when the sunroof is slid back), but whatever
3-- New headlight housings installed (ones they just put in fog when I wash car)

What I don't get is: what are the grounds for ordering the new EGR valve, when I mentioned the IACV ?
Sorry babyblue didn't mean to

haha...sorry to hear that man, there was a bulletin for that sunroof wind deflector that came out 2-3 years ago. I can't believe that they didn't order that part instead. Lemme know how it goes and everything...good luck

I'll be damned, my advisor/service people are really nice, but damn they seem to not get it all together. Hell like I said, I tried to guide them to the IACV, on receipt "Customer states car shutters when coming to a stop, states might be Idle Air Control Valve"
Part: Order EGR valve
I'm not going to get started on the sunroof.....
