drivin home tonight the passenger of my car leaned out the window to yell at someone they knew and as they did it the light on my bezel that says "side airbag off" lit up for about 5 seconds n then turned off. was it caused by him leaning on the door or was that just a coincidence? either way why'd that happen and should i worry about it?

 

it deactivates the passenger airbag when the passenger is in certain positions, so not to cause harm or kill the passenger if the bags were deployed.

that's pretty cool. what if you are resting your head on teh dash? will it disable the front airbags, or are you fucked? jk

 

when u rest ur arms on the side of the door..as in u are in contact with the airbag wall, the light will go off..even the passenger side.

Meh mine lights up and goes off without people in the passenger seat, as well. No real explanation, it just happens. Unless it comes on and stays on, I'm not going to worry about it.

 

most new cars do this, even ghetto american ones

 

mine will do it if i'm moving around in the driver seat too. so that might be why yours is doing it.

 

If your Side Air bag light is turning on and off by itself, then the sensor is going out. If it is warrantied, SWEEEEEEET. If not, get ready to pony up almost $1000 bux to replace that sensor.

Sensor - close to $700
Labor - close to $300

 

Yall should read this thread you can take your car back into the dealer if your under warranty i think and they can fix that problem...its part of a warranty fix..
