Should i get 30k service before/after cross-country trip?

sup yall, i got about 28k on my cls now...just wanted your opinions on whether or not i'm should get hte 30k service done before or after my trip from va to cali...

i'm def gonna get these no matter what:
-oil change
-tire rotation

the ttrip will be about 2700miles...

how much does a 30k service cost? i remember them tellin me it was like over $200 (i have to dbl check)....do u think its worth it to just pay the price and have them do it, or break it down to each service (such as change air filter, tire rotation, etc) separately?

anyone have this done at pohanka or radley recently? if so, i'd like to know how it went...

thanks in advance.

I don't think they will do the 30k service 2k miles in advance. I tried to have them do the 22.5k service 1k in advance and they wouldn't do it. You might want them to change the oil and tire rotation and have them subtract the cost from the 30k service when you have that done.

simple...tell them u're taking a long trip and would feel better getting the 30K service before the trip as opposed to after u come back...that is, if u would feel better getting it done beforehand...IMO, i'd have it done before just in case

why bother...

all they are going to do is check your fluids, change you oil and change your tranny fluid...

take it to your local auto shop and have them do it for you...
save some money...

I got pissed after I took mine in for the 30k service and found out all they did was change my fluids.. for 400 bucks...

screw that... I can change my fluids myself thank you... and check my brake pads...

it's up to you... save the money for gas... go get the honda atf tranny fluid and whatever oil you use and have jiffy lube do it...

cheaper.

The dealers should do the 30,000 mile service for you early.
They want to make money so what service you tell them to do they will. If you have lower mileage like me but the cars age is older you follow the month/year service schedule. This maintenance schedule is in the owners manual. Myself with my mileage would not wait untill I get 30,000 to get that service done. The reason for me is because the Tranny fluid should be changed at 2yrs not 3. I would be next summer getting to 30K on my car & it would be over 3yrs old. I only have 21,000 on my 2year old car now. So by the time I get back from the PARK AVE ACURA meet I will be do for my next service. This would be the 22,500 service by the dealers schedule mantinace book. I got my last oil change done in mid March. So I will get my 22,500 that includes the BG SERVICE KIT sometime in June. I always go by the servere maintinace schedule in the owners manual. I will also tell them to change the tranny fluid then. But depending on your cash I would get it done before you go.

Assuming you have good oil and the car is otherwise well maintained, I would do the service in California. Traveling across country should not be too horrible in the wear and tear department. You're doing 2700 highway miles, not city miles.

I just called a few dealerships, one wants $330 and the other wants $360...

Is it really worth it to get the 30k done at the dealership?...It seems like to change a few fluids (oil, transmission), then the air filters (2), rotate tires, and check this/that...

I bet they dont even do all the checking they say they do.

I think i'm just gonna get hte oil change and tire rotation done first, then maybe get the 30k service when i get there...

well heres the dille to change the air filters LABOR is like 150 on it. then just add everything else.

all i did was get tires rotated(40 bucks *now i take it to a gas station 18.99* , new rotors/pad (warranty) flush tranny (60 bucks) and oil/filter change. and then i said skip all the checking bullshit.

as for the air filters I just went to track auto got a spray you spray in to the ac unit to make it freasher. no way i would pay 300 for some bullshit

sure they will do it a little early. its different in mercedes you have to be within 2000 miles, but the services are warranty, but if your paying you can do it anytime, its a good idea to have it done before your trip, that way you might see a potential problem before it happens

You are absolutely right. Get your oil change and tires rotated before your drive, then get the 30K service when you get to Cali. I have made the cross sountry trip several times, it'll benefit you more in the long run for the service to be done upon the completion of your trip. They will change all of your fluids when you get to Cali and they will be set towards the milder climate of California as to the harsh extremes we go through here in DC. It'll ride smoother also, so it's worth the wait. You would have to get your oil changed as soon as you get to Cali anyways, and have your tires rotated pretty soon after, so it makes sense to save the majority of the work for the end of the trip.

Have fun on your drive, and I still hate you for going to Cali!!!

I'll be there on a quick visit June 11th, so if you make it there before then, drop me a note, I'll give you a quick tour of what I know about LA!
