Anyone know if you can get a short-throw shifter for the 6-spd Cl Type S? I hadn't seen anything about one but someone out there has to know??

At the detroit auto show I tested probably 20 different manual tranny shifter throws and I still think the CL-S6 had the shortest out of all them. Why mess with perfection?

Nuespeed. But you MAY have to modify the base.

I think Civic has one for sale in the Black Market.

You probably didn't sit in a S2000. That 6 speed has to be the sweetest one out there. . .

No, but I have driven a S2000 before and remember it being a very nice shifting tranny.

Was wondering the same. I've driven a 2004 S4 and those suckers are sweet in shifting smooth! Anyone every drive a vette? 1->2->3 etc is like a 1 inch throw! :P

Neuspeed makes one. I have it on my 6 speed. I really don't notice a difference. I got the re-enginered piece that is supposed to fit better so you don't have to notch the shifter plate. It fit fine on my car. I heard this new design has more of a throw then the orginal ones. Meaning the older ones have a shorter throw.

There is only a minimal difference between the old and new Neuspeed adapters. I have the new one, and I found the difference between stock and with the adapter to be significant. I guess it is a matter of perception. Some don't care for it, some really like it, and some don't notice much of a difference.

I am one of those who really like it. I also have a lower shift knob, which helps as well. I feel like I don't even have to move my arm when I shift. It is not much more than a flick of the wrist now.

But sometimes the shift doesn't feel as smooth as before. That is perhaps the tradeoff. By making the shifts shorter you give up leverage. And you are changing the angle of the shift cable where it attaches to the shift lever. Most of the comments regarding dislike of the adapter seem to relate to the less smooth feel. I personally prefer the short throw and am willing to make the tradeoff. YMMV.

I think Cartan summed up the short shifter issues nicely.

I was one of those that didn't like the Neuspeed bracket and thought is was a poor design. My car is now free of any Neuspeed products. You might want to check out this thread as well.

I think what I am really looking to find out then is if there is a shorter/lower knob like cartan said that would make the actual stick feel lower down. I think I must be used to my previous car's shifter height (88 300ZX Turbo that I had the stock shifter stick cut down by about 3/4") and now anything normal feels super high in the air. Although, I just drove the 350 Z tonight and that thing has a real low stick. Is there some knob out there that looks pretty stock but that makes the stick height somewhat lower?

I agree with Speed_Racer. I test drove the S2000 6-speed. Man, that is short!

Do a search for 'knob' here and you'll find a lot of pics. Almost every aftermarket knob will lower the total shift height.

I have a Team Voodoo Titanium knob that I bought from Ricks2k.com. Many here have Momo knobs. Personally, I like the round or oval ones, like Race, Sphere, and Shot.

I am a old gray haired guy who is new to this forum, but I still maintain my passion for cars, especially those with an H (or an H pinched at the top) on them! I've owned over 20 cars, but I've never owned an automatic (don't even know how to drive them). I've driven about a half a million miles over the past 30 years, (both on and off track), from "long throw" 3 and 4 speeds on the col, to 4, 5, and 6 speeds (Legend coupe, S2000, 350Z, and now a CLS) on the floor. I say all this to say this: Listen to your elders here! It is my understanding that the stock shifter on the CLS is a "short throw" shifter. It is also as smooth as silk. I use a satin chrome sola luna shift knob because it screws directly on (they are non-universal), has vibration and heat dampers, feels great, looks good, and shortens the throw (by shortening the overall length of the shifter), all for about $40. There are a few finish options, but they are all spherical (as far as I know). You can see them and purchase them from R speed in Atlanta (www.rspeed.net). Check them out. I hope this helps.

The Sola Luna looks to be the same style as the Team Voodoo knobs. Nice!

Yes, it sure does. I was not aware of the Team Voodoo knobs. Thanks. They appear to cost a little less as well!

Does the current Neuspeed product 66.20.38 require any modification to the stock chassis etc.?

Seems the answer is yes, or maybe...

See here-->http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...5&pagenumber=2 and look at page 2 & 3. Cartan and 6mt had to trim. Civic4982 did not.

rspeed's website shows Mini and Miata parts. Is your Sola Luna knob on your CL-S for one of these cars, or does r-speed also carry one for the CL-S? If the former, Miata or Mini?

That is a good idea. I like the TSX shift knob. Did it screw right on without any mods?

For that matter, does anyone know if the new TL shift knob will fit on the CL shifter? That knob looks nice also and has some leather around it. It is shown on Acura's website under the TL Gallery.

Installed VooDoo Shift Knob!

After a little creativity, I came up with something pretty nice looking and blends well with the knob.

Basically:
Removed Existing shift knob and ring
Went to Ace Hardware and bought a rubber stopper and "thick" (3/8 in thick) aluminum washer with a inner diameter equal to the shift lever(<$1)
Drilled a small hole in the rubber stopper to prevent it from moving then cut it in 1/2 with my dremel
Ran it this way: rubber stopper, washer, leather with heavy duty rubber band securing it to washer, shift knob

Here's how it turned out, the ring matches the knob!

Sorry for the quality, it's dark out.

From what I understand, all Honda products share the same shifter threading from NSX to RSX to Civic.

My Team Voodoo knob was made specifically for the S2000 and fit perfectly in the CL. I also considered the TSX and Zanardi NSX knob before I got the titanium S2000 knob.

Check out http://www.daliracing.com for some cool JDM OEM, titanium, and aluminum knobs. Expensive but nice.

The new TL knob is nice too. I looked on www.acuraautomotiveparts.org and they don't have the new TL listed, so no price as of yet.

Here is another nice shift knob that sits lower than stock and goes well with the car interior. I just happen to have one for sale in the Black Market!

Rspeed offers the sola luna with an insert to fit Hondas/Acuras as well (it is different from the mini and miata). If you call or email them (Joe or Hector) they can help you.

Very nice work. Looks great!
