Shift knob removal

Okay, does anyone have a sure-fire way to remove the damn shift knob? I've searched the archives and noticed that there is not much info on it. I'm about to brake my wrist trying to get this thing off...I've been turning it left (towards the steering wheel) but it's not budging. Help a brother out!

Thx guys. It got dark on me. I'll give it a crack next week. I'm headed out of town for a 4 day ski trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Yay me!

You have to hold the shift bar below and twist the F*ck out of that knob.

One more tip for removal. Buy a nylon strap type socket wrench driven oil filter strap. Works great for shift knob removal and as a universal oil filter wrench.
