Service Bulletin for the Brakes? - Help -

i couldn't find my answers on a search. i thought i heard that there was a service bulletin for our rotors and pads. i'm at 19k miles, i got the rotors machined at 12k as a "one time favor" from acura of pleasaon, CA. i don't want acura to give me crap about it when i go in tomorrow for a new tranny too :o

is there a bulletin that i can print out and shove in their faces? or any tips?

thanks all

dude just raise hell, i went to Cush acura in Escondido for my 30k service, and asked them about the brakes, they said that its not a warrantable part, so i made a stink!
trust me ur dealer wants to keep you happy, Acura is starting to send out a shitload of forms to find out how their dealers are performing!

dont be a dick but make sure they understand you want your brakes fixed and you dont wana pay anything!

be gentle, yet firm!

There is a bulletin pertaining to brake shimmy/shaking when stopping. It first came out for just the TLs, but has been extended to the CLs. If you are having a vibration problem, let your dealer know- he can check them and repair if necessary. Remember- just because there is a bulletin doesn't mean every car has the problem- they are intended to help technicians repair a problem if it happens to appear on a particular car.

I thought that Acura had concluded that the brake pads on the CL-S "could cause rotor warp", and that replacing them would correct a "potential problem". I read that as the pads should be replaced, as they will cause a problem eventually. I might not be driving my card hard enough at this time, but I will be in the future. So shouldn't a "known problem" be fixed now? I mean brakes working properly is pretty important, isn't it? Isn't there a TSB number we can referance when we ask the dealer to replace the pads?

I hope they didn't actually say it was a "one time favor"? Regardless of whether there is a service bulletin or not, if your car is under warranty and you report a problem they are OBLIGATED to address it. Period. I reported the same problem last year, my dealer machined the rotors (it wasn't a one time favor, its standard procedure!) and they were still within spec; took the car for a road test and then decided that even though the rotors were within spec they were not good enuff - my dealer replaced them and pads under warranty.

.. is there a bulletin that i can print out and shove in their faces? or any tips?
Like the other members here, I wouldn't recommend shoving anything in their face.If you car has a defect it is their obligation to fix it. Be polite but firm. If your car does not present the defect it is not reasonable to demand they make a preventative remedy.

And I am sure that unless they have been specifically told by Acura to replace everyone's pads, the service guys just can't start changing every car they service (may upset headquarters).

I have about 15k miles on mine, I use SS mode, brake hard, and I have no brake issues at all (at least not today). I do have blind faith that any problems I have will be taken care of under my extended warranty. (at least I am happy!)

well the service guy told me that if the brake pads are less than 50% worn and the rotors are warped, they will replace them free.

i guess they will machine the rotors for free underwarranty, but won't replace the pads (unless, like i said, there is more than 50% left on them)

and BTW, my service guy has no freaking clue about our trannies going out so much. he actually is quite dumb altogether

Damm*t I just got my rotors resurfaced through a 3rd party mechanic cuz Oakland Acura refused me of warranty service. What a waste of $70 if I could of gotten them done for free if I raised a havoc.
