Semi Drifting

Today as I was drinving home, I turn on the corner a bit too fast at the apex of the curve.... I actually got my car to drifted a bit. I don't think this is possible with the stock setup...

I have Comptech Anti-sways and some 235/40/18 series of tires and it really enhanced the drifting experience. Most people thought to get FWD is not very possible but with the right setup it still can drift just not as much as RWD or AWD would.

The way I got my car to drift is... when entering the curve/corner tap the brake lightly, and in middle of the curve/corner step on the gas gradually... and most of all make sure you have the steering wheel firmly held to the direction you want the car to go.. at this time you can feel the rear is drifting a bit... when you feel the rear is drifting, turn the steering wheel in the direction where the rear is drifting to correct the steering! That is how I got the car to drfit a bit... it is pretty fun, not scary at all.

With the comptech sways I feel very comfortable and confident as the car feels very stable and predictable.

I had a 'lude before the CL-S and I put on the springs and sways to make it handle like the Prelude...I DO agree that it is a whole other tank after I did that. Not as nimble but certainly faster.

I have the same setup CT sways and 235/40/18... The nitto tire would "jump" in hard corners ( on ramps ) when the surface is bumpy... I never drifted on those tires.. I can on;y feel the tail would "jump" a bit... no need to correct...

I always wondered how are the Nittos compared with Kumhos? You know while my car drifted a bit my tires didn't even make that annoying pig squealing sounds like the OEM Michelins... and Kumhos definitely feels stiffer and more controllable.

hahaha yep I am a nut, I figured well since I live on a Cul-De-Sac and there is almost no traffic what's a better plce to test out my new setup than that

Man it is fun I think I'll try that again sometime after I get my Tein SS installed to see what the difference is.

My Civic Si used to drift. You just need to have the right set up. However, it's definitely not the same as a awd or rwd drift. You can throttle yourself into a drift with a rwd which is incredible fun, but with fwd you have to have a sudden loss of throttle to get this to work.

I didn't drift, but when I was dropping off my girl at the airport, I went the wrong way and got back on the freeway heading back to town. I was pissed and running late. So I took an off ramp that I knew I could do a u-turn at the end and get back on the freeway. I get to the end of the off ramp, NO U-TURN, I took a quick look for cops, and no one was coming from either direction, I turned in hard and grabbed the hand brake. I slid all the way around, dropped it in first and smoked the tires all the way up the on ramp. It was cool!

Why do people come here and tell us they are idiots? Is it because they are anonymous? I guess it does have its good side, as after reading these things I become a real defensive driver.. YMMV

I would say backing up on ramp is stupid... how about making a U-turn in the middle of the HW and driving in wrong direction because you took the wrong HW entry,....

Just drive the funken car to the next exit and drive back....

Re: Semi Drifting

How tight a fit were your 235/40/18 series of tires? I'm considering some Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires that are 235/45ZR17s mounted on some Volk Racing LE37K, 17x7.5 rims. What I like about this tire/rim combo is that the overall outer tire diameter is only 25.6 inches, as opposed to 25.5 with stock tires and rims. It's the closest I can find without affecting the speedo calibration that much or making the car have a higher final drive ratio to the road.

thanks,
-g

I have +42,, offset to my rims to complement my 235/40/18 tires. It looks flush to the wheel well not sticking out at all. The ride is firmer, but not jarring.. still have a high degree of comfort to it. I expereinced no rubbing at all even with full load of passengers. My car is not lowered at all.

I can tell you put some decent tires on their will change this car's handling dynamics, I never realized the potential of this car until I throw some wider Z rated tires and sways on there.

If you have the OEM rims and wanting to fit 235 series tires on there I think it is possible but it will be a very tight fit and hard for alignment to be done. Also your speedometer will be off by a small percentage due to the tire's RPM is different from the stock. I choose 235/40/18 is because the overall diameter of the tire/rims are nearly identical to the OEM setup.

Again, drifting is fun, but make sure you do it in a place where there is not a lot of traffic... be safe!

Please rename the title to Semi-Dragging. You don't drift in a fwd car, you just drag its ass around. If you want to drift get an AE86 you Hachi-Roku poser. Pathetic loser you.

You can drift in a FWD car, trust me. Most misconception is that FWD is not able drift. The reality is that FWD can drift although not to the same degree as AWD or RWD. Maybe you should go do more research before you speak. I appreciate your input but no need for the hostility and name calling.. if you want to do that, do it else where.

I guess I didn't specify. It was a u-turn to get on a DIFFERENT on-ramp back on the freeway! the only thing I did wrong was an illegal u-turn! I was pissed and running late!
Damn it!!!
sorry, but you guys are flaming me for making a u-turn around a median too fast, when there is an other thread around here with people posting about topping out their cars on the street!
