Sears won't price match Tire Rack

I've been looking at getting a set of Summitomo HTR+, and Tire Rack has them for $87/each. Sears also sells them, so I went Saturday to get a quote......on sale - $132.99/each. That's a $46 difference even when they're on sale. Shipping for all 4 tires wouldn't be but $37 from Tire Rack. The dude said they wouldn't and couldn't match Tire Rack because they're always so low. I was hoping they would just for the convenience factor.

Call around and see what a local tire shop would charge you for mounting the tires. I'd guess it'd cost you $100 bucks or so?

Do the math and see if it'd be cheaper to get em' from da' rack.

I already know "Da' Rack" will be cheaper.

4 tires with shipping charges from Tire Rack - $388 + $100 mounting = +/- $488

Just the Tires from Sears without sales tax or mounting - $532. Add mounting ($10/tire) + tax (9.25%) = $625

Bottom line difference of $137

Do you have a NTB (National Tire & Battery) store near you.
I got a price match from them when I bought MY tires.

PS…. NTB is owned by SEARS so they might share the same policies in your area.... but it's worth a try

One more choice

Sorry to confuse the issue, but have you considered the new Conti ExtremeContact. I replaced a pair of the HTR+s (pot hole damage) with the Contis. They ride a bit stiffer, but both wet and dry traction is superior. I also found the HTR+s to wear pretty quickly. The cost is about the same.

One thing to keep in mind is that you don't pay tax (yet) when shoping online.... another $40 of savings.

theres bound to be more than one Sears in your area, or at least within a 'reasonable' driving distance. I was in my local Sears Saturday picking up mower things, and walked across the isle and asked for a price on 235/45/17 HTR+'s. Was quoted $137/tire. I asked if they matched Tire Rack - the guy asked me how much - and I told him $104/tire. He said no problem, just bring a copy of the quote from Tire Rack, and then he gave me a quote somewhere in the low $500 +/- range, which included tax, mounting and lifetime balancing. Point being ... seems that the individual stores are setting their own policy. Just like buying a new car .... check around.
