That's because Limerock is a real racetrack. I know one of the instructors up there and it is recommended you take many classes to avoid problems. It is also recommended you use cars that can defty run that racetrack. I don't think cone autocrossing qualifies as the skills needed to do high speed turns and esp. when you have company on the track. I'd never take my CLS to limerock the idea of racing in an unbalanced near luxo sports car does not make sense to me. Maybe one day if I have a porsche or M3, or other trackable car I'd consider it.

EDIT: I just watched the vid agian because it was fuzzy the first time and I was under the impression the yellow porsche was a RSX It looked like a Porsche Club Event definetly and i retract my statement about not deserving to drive on the track. The yellow car should of turned in harder though.

Ouch!! Don't know if that was from a club race or drivers education event, but that must have left a few dents/scratches
Most weekend warriors don't have track insurance, 'cause it can be quite expensive. Some insurance companies won't cover damages in a timed event (i.e. club racing), but some will cover stuff caused in drivers ed.
Here's Jack Olsen's BB1 (black beauty) after it's crash on Turn 9 at Laguna Seca :
More details of Jack's crash (including a video) can be found here:

All drivers are aware of the risks involved at track events, and the video in the original post looks to be a relatively minor "bump" It's racing, and shit happens.

If I was going to buy a track car theres no doubt in my mind I would want a Z06 or possibly build my own.

But yeah, I'll agree with you that 130- 140mph (top speed on the straights at some tracks) isn't that fast

The porsche is a street driven race car (leather interior, full air conditioning system, cupholders, etc, etc). It's prepped for race (flares for wider tires, cage, fire supression, etc), but is also run on the street.
More importantly, the NSX was a full race prepped car, with a professional driver. The 911 was driven by "regular" guys.
The Z06 is another car (other then a 911), that I'd also consider for a track/street car. I like vettes too, but I wouldn't underestimate a 911 on certain tracks (especially w/ short straights). Early C5 prices have started to drop to the low/mid $20's, so a used early C5 is starting to look interesting to me. It'll be awhile before the Z06's come down to that price range.

I was just at Lime Rock last Friday for a Skip Barber class and there was a Porche and BMW meet going on the whole time I was there. Skip Barber has it's own area to play in (skid pad, autocross, etc). The classroom looks out over the real race track and there was a nice Porche that wiped out the Friday I was there coming down the main hill torward the nice straight away seen in the video before that turn (Big Bend I think they called it). I didn't see the crash but I saw what was left of the car towed away. It was messy but the guy driving was okay. I bet that there are a lot of accidents on that track.
