Saves the Tranny?

I don't know if it's true or not, but I heard that if you put the parking brake up everytime you park (level ground or not) it will help the transmission.

Fact or Fiction?

Fiction. That's not the problem with the transmission.

He may be referring to the parking pin though, not the common problem with these trannies.

Ive heard of rare cases when the parking pin breaks because the car is in park on an incline. As I said, its rare, but it has happened. But putting the e-brake on on inclines should be a no brainer anyway.

It wont solve the tranny problems we experience but its just better for all auto transmissions in general.

Yeah, thats pretty much what i meant. I didn't mean that it would solve any of the tranny problems we are having.

Is that when you put it in Park and the car moves with a slight jerk before stopping completly?

The parking brake does stops that from happening (if you pull it up b4 you put it in Park).

He's talking about the crunch sound you hear in most automatics when you park on a hill and then put it into gear to start again later. You can stop this by parking on the hill and putting on the parking brake before putting the transmission into park. Then when you return, place your foot on the brake, disengage the parking brake and then put the transmission into drive or reverse before removing your foot from the brake.

Sounds like you need to adjust your brake. Not sure how to do it on the automatic (some cars with foot ebrakes allow you to pull up on it and then push it down to pickup any loose tension in the cable) but I'm sure there's info here.

So the crunch noise is from the tranny? I'm not saying this is why our trannies are messing up, but does the noise come from the the car rocking and stopping on the tranny?

It comes from when your car is put into park on a hill. Then when you let your foot off the brake and you get the little roll forward. Thats when your car is preset for the noise next time you go to pull the shifter into gear. To avoid like said earlier when you come to a stop before letting your foot off the brake pull the ebrake then when you let you foot off the brake this time it wont roll so there will be no noise.
