driving i n crappy weather and you are only 3 cars behind? sounds like you were a little too close. I am suprised that the officer ticketed you though since he was on the road illegally and it could be argued that if he was not there, there would have not been an accident.

I dunno about you but I find the brakes on my car to be more than able to haul the car down from posted speeds in a hurry and the data from motor trend backs this up (1 year test indicated NO BRAKING PROBLEMS). I was almost rear ended by a guy that could not stop as fast as I could when the person if front of me came almost to a complete stop because they were not paying attention to what was going on in front of them. Thankfully i left enough room in front of me so that I could pull forward before the guy hit me. The stopping distance for a V6 accord btw is 127 ft

As I am sure others will point out, those tests were done under perfect conditions (i.e. no rain) and the driver knew he'd be braking for the test - one has to consider reaction time in an emergency stop. 3 car lengths seems sufficient to me...

Acuras/Hondas have a long and well-documented history of undersizing both the brakes and the tires (all OEM). While there have certainly been situations where I could stop my car very quickly, it's certainly not the norm! Takes a lot to haul down a 3500lb car with undersized brakes/tires.

Hey Buddy,

I know it wasn't your fault- when someone makes a complete stop on a highway or a decent moving road it a lot harder to go to a complete stop and slow down. I know a lot of us (especially those of us with a heavy foot) have been or could've been in your situation.

The ticket sucks and you should fight it if you're up for it. As others have mentioned- the unlicensed driver shouldnt have been on the road and if he wasn't there you wouldn't have hit him.

In terms of the car, hang in there. It sucks but it will all work out in time. And look forward to all those 03 goodies you will get with her now! Let us now what happens with the adjuster.

that car is a total loss. i see frame damage and radiator support damage. look for a type S this time.

id say min repair cost 5,000 but i think it will be more bc they need to pull the frame straight, replace the hood, grill, bumper, both headlights, radiator, condensor, possible power steering lines, possible condensor lines, possible front cross beam, possible cross member. not to mention the R&I and paint.

I just back from the doctor and I'll be out of work until next tuesday because my back is messed up. I'll be doing physical therapy when I go back to work. More than likely I'll be on light duty for a while.

If it is totaled out I'm still going to use everything I have.

I'll have an extra BVA just in case. :wink:

I'm a firm believer that it's worth it to travel TO the right car if you can find it.

My stepdad bought a pristine M3 off of ebay in TX and drove it back to FL because he couldn't find one locally. It was probably the nicest '04 I have seen this side of a brand new one. He got a decent deal on it and again, the car was perfect with low miles. I would totally do it.

yep. distortedolskool and i flew from texas to damn near canada (northern ohio) to get his SMR/ebony CLS6 and then drove it all the way back. the car was in better condition that we even expected.

i hope you dont get in a 03TLS because you are just gonna have tranny probs.

i would look for another 6spd or jst wait a bit cause parchament makes me vomit when its paired with NHB

Sorry to hear about your car Green.
This morning I had to stop suddenly from 40mph and I figured I would never have been able to, but my car surprised me and stopped very fast without the ABS kicking in.
At least you didn't install the new HID's yet, that would have been a waste. That's what happened to me in my integra (the lights) right after installing $130 HL bulbs.
Glad that the airbags don't go off in front end collisions! That makes me feel comfortable!
If the cost gets to high, just buy my car! HA... Tranny only has 4k on it! Same exact car (from the factory that is) as yours.
I remember reading a post about which way slotted rotors should be installed... I wonder if this could be an answer to that. IMO yours should have been installed in the other direction. The gasses and moisture need to be pushed away from the pads, not towards the center.
Any engine damage? It doesn't look like it, but you never know what the radiator support went into and don't forget the hydraulic engine mount that is right behind the radiator support (should be low enough though). I hope that nothing messed up your Type S parts, they probably would only give you CLP parts and you would get stuck with the difference.

I have really good news!

Market value for my car is worth over $11 grand.

The total damage estimate came to $6136.xx with some change. She's getting fixed!

Oh and BTW, '03 headlamps are coming.

EDIT: If the shop finds any more damage they will let the adjuster know, so I still have a couple grand to play with if it comes to it.

Sorry to hear about your accident. As a fellow Washingtonian, I know what the weather's been like and it could have been a lot worse.

I would guess, too, that this will be a total. After having to replace both the HID inverter ($400) and a lense ($180) on my '01 CL-S, you would be looking at $1,160 right there, plus a couple of new bulbs at $120 each (or so), and that's $1,300 just for headlights. After frame, bumper, and hood repair, paint, etc., well, you know.

On the bright side, someone totalled by Maxima and I was able to get into the CL-S (which I love.... other than the cost of the damn headlight components ). So you might be able to get something you love even more.
