Unhappy Sad news...

From the crappy ass weather we've been having up in Washington state, I was in an accident with my CL. I rear ended somebody when they slammed on their brakes from them not paying attention to the traffic in front of them. I was almost 3 car lengths behind the guy but wet slick roads and going below the speed limit doesn't make a difference with a 3500lb car.

-The other driver didn't have insurance nore a driver's license so the cop slapped him with $1000 fine. Good thing is that my insurance will not pay for his car. I only have to pay for $150 ticket and $500 for my deductible. I took out everything that is valuable in the car since I won't be seeing her a lot until she's fixed.

She's getting towed tomorrow to have the insurance adjuster get me a quote. From there the car will be fixed up accordingly. But it will just take time. The front end will basically look brand new and I should get it back before Christmas.

For now I am carpooling with a friend and she agreed to help me out as mush as possible.

*And for the vultures, it won't be parted out.

I'm ok, the car did what it was supposed to do. Save my life! I think I might of got a little bit of an injury though. I've had back issues for the past 4 hours. I took a couple vicaden and put some good inflamatory cream and the pain is being suppressed right now. I don't like how the V. makes me all woozy though.

Hey Green Machine- Glad to hear you're ok. So Sorry about the car, it sucks to see something you put your heart and soul into messed up but she will be back in your hands with fresh paint!

Glad you were able to get a friend to help you out with travel in the mean time and you are probably going to be a little sore and stiff from the impact of the accident for a couple of days after. I have been in a similar accident and the body does take a little bruising.

Keep us updated!

Whoa, looks a more than minor but less than serious, but in the end, it is bad news that it got crushed.

Good to hear that there was no personal injury and i feel for ya. I almost got into the same situation the other day and it was on a downhill section of the road. ABS came on instantly and I stopped just in the knick of time.

sorry to hear. those pics make it look like a potential totalling.

I've almost rear ended someone before. same exact thing as what happened to you, except that I BARELY stoped in time. Scared the shit out of me.

Good luck with the results.

I've been pricing out a lot of the parts and I wouldn't be surprised if the bill came between 6-7 grand after parts, paint, labor and towing.

A lot of those front parts are uber expensive.

It was a 40 zone, I was going less than 35 mph, but as noted, slick wet roads and sudden braking doesn't help.

(battery acid hit every body panel. ) so she's sparkling clean now. Oh and, the cost to repair my slightly worse front end damage... $15000. that included a new tranny from Acura. So like you said, it is very expensive to fix our cars.

yeah, it doesn't actually look that bad from what i can see. although, it might be more than your estimate though. mine ended up being $3500 for just the bumper, fender, headlight, and a wheel and tire.

It doesnt look like your bags blew. And be thankful for that. My 1st Gen CL had WAY less damage and the bags blew in her, but then again thats how i got the car. Either way. Glad that you are alright. I'll see that car back up here again soon all nice.

Since we're all tossing out numbers....I think it looks like it will be in the $4500-$5500 range. Cost of fixing cars seem to find a way spiral out of control when the body shop knows it's not coming out of your pocket.

Ticket was probably, Driving to fast for conditions....
As for the damage, my girl just got in a front end accident.

Even if it has UniBody damage, they can straighten it, this isn't the days of old where you bend a frame and your car is totaled.

Since no Airbags came out, you aren't looking at anything serious in terms of price unless the underside of your vehicle is torn to hell. Also, its an advantge that you hit the car in the middle, because you might not have much side suspension damage. (IE, knuckle, tie rod ends, axles)
It will probably be 6-7K like those other guys said.

Glad you are ok. Good luck

everytime i have ever got in an accident i come out on top $$ wise. find you a shop that is good and trusted, and they will do the repairs for thousands less than the adjuster writes you a check for.

I've never seen so many car/truck flip-overs before in my life before moving here. And on top of it its usually on a side street w/ a 40 MPH speed limit. Scary. Front end damage doesn't seem so bad when you see a car on it's roof!

Hope she's better than new when you get her back, Green!

OK...everybody is asking about the ticket. The ticket was for rear ending the guy. Even with as careful as I was it didn't make a difference because it was still my fault. I just got off the phone with the adjuster and he's saying there's a 50% chance that it could be totaled from what I described to him. I'm going to try to get some "interchangeable parts." But we'll see. The tow truck is going to be at my place soon. I'll keep you all updated.

Exclamation

if you are at fault in the accident why isnt your insurance company going to pay for the other person's car?

It's an 01 CLP. I can't imagine the value is greater then $10K. Cars get totaled at around the 80% of value mark.
If the fix is around the $7-8K mark it's done.
Guess there's a law that anyone that rear ends is at fault? I don't see how you were at fault otherwise.
Looks like your insurance is going to get jacked.

If you rear end someone, it's automatically your fault. That's why they teach you to keep your distance and look ahead of the car in front of you to react to a upcomming slow down. Hopefully it's not totalled GM, goodluck and im glad to hear your ok. I always tell my friends to drive safe during rainy season. I learned my lesson.

I hope he had informed his insurance company of all his Mods. Because they will not honor modifications to a vehicle if they weren't reported, regardless of receipts or not. If its totaled, the adjuster will just take the mods into account when deceiding the FMV.

Look at it this way, you brought justice to the insurance world. You got an idiot driver off the road who had no insurance and no licenses, they should be giving you a discount, its the least they can do.

The market value for my car with the miles it has is between 10-11 thousand. A lot of insurance companies will not pay for the other person's vehicle if they don't have insurance on their car. The adjuster knows I have mods on my car. He said if it comes down to totaling then I can take all that stuff off and put the OEM stuff on.

I'll know tomorrow what the cost will be. He said if it is over 70% of the market value then it'll be a loss.

Listen, the ticket I got was for rear ending the guy. Period. It wasn't for anything else. It wasn't careless driving, or following too close.

But like I said. I won't know anything until tomorrow.
