S2000 Quickly Tries, Then Quits

Coming into the office this morning I was heading down the back roads and got a couple of cars back from a black S2000 at a light. When it went green I saw him get on it somewhat and pulled out in front of traffic. I tried to catch up but we were all in medium traffic.

I later got next to him and then in front during some stop and go traffic and noticed his KSU sticker in the window so I assumed he was heading to the local college.

My turn was coming up and during a surge in traffic while I got into the turning lane I noticed his jump up to me rear bumper. So as I went around the corner with him right behind as I watched for his intentions. As soon as I saw him move quickly towards my car I stepped on it in 1st. Through the short span in 1st I only put about a length on him. I went to 2nd and that gap increased quickly to about 3 to 4 lengths. I went to 3rd and saw him drop back very quickly, which to me indicated he let off.

For the rest of the time on the same road he stayed back several lengths.

heheh. I guess he saw my gauges (boost and fuel pressure) and decided to give it a try. If he didn't see the gauges he is probably scratching his head.

Correct, but also with the higher boost pulley, hand ported and polished intake manifold and an enlarged throttle body.

I thought headers would be assumed, but yes, Comptech headers. I am running the stock exhaust though.

steve, what are your thoughts on the t-body?

same question on the intake. you did that when you were still n/a, right? what were the gains like?

are you concidering going comptech cat back when it becomes available?

nice kill.

I can't say anything on the TB as right now any gains would not be noticeable. But based on the flow numbers I ran it sure wouldn't hurt and was reasonable in price.

The intake was questionable and inconclusive. But again, it didn't hurt anything.

Of these two items, the porting and the TB, I would say the TB was more of a sure thing.

As for the exhaust, I dunno. It depends on the sound as I prefer to keep it quite now. I've had my share of droning or too noisy exhaust systems.

Matt, don't waste your time on the P&P manifold if you're NA. Gain is ~2-3 hp and the gas mileage is worse.

Oh, btw, nice kill Steve!

I hate speculating. But to be honest based on what the car has done before and how it pulls now; I would say it should run a 13.7@104 as the car sits and run in decent weather. I don't live in record breaking country and decent weather would mean about 80 degrees with reasonably low humidity for these parts (60% is reasonable).

Maybe in the fall with cooler weather it might hit a 13.5@105. But I hope to have the IC done by then and be running about 7.5 PSI boost. At that point I hope to hit 13.2@108 or in that territory.

Dyno it Steve... can't wait to see it!!

Also... your traction is going to suck... so get some DR's or slicks... actually slicks because DR's suck as well!

Ya, my driving also sucks so I will probably need all the help I can get.

I'm going to the dyno soon enough to get a baseline before doing anything further.

Traction is a bummer for this car on stocks or even DR's. I remember it is really luck to hook off line - kind of have to feather it... and really burn some clutch to avoid spinning until the car is actually moving.

I am sure your driving is good - just that one can't do too much without traction.

I really want to try a 6K RPM clutch-dump on slicks... that would rocket off the line!

Comptech is coming out w/ a cat-back? I just placed an order through my friend for the axle-back. Will the cat-back give more gains ya think? I'd expect a higher price, of course.

you will be able to add the b-pipe to your mufflers and have a cat back system. yes, i'm sure the b-pipe will be expensive.

Not reasonanbly, the blower has a maximum RPM limit which should not be exceeded. Besides the meachnical RPM limits such as premature bearing wear, stretching of the lobes and potentially contacting the housing. There is the issue with going outside of the blower efficiency.

BTW, 8 PSI is possible and probably the max anyone will run with this blower.
