Rough Starts (Wayne, Jens....HELP!)

Hey Guys...

This is something I've noticed lately. Sometimes I start the car and RPM's pop up to like 1500, then fall down WAY BELOW the 750 idle (So it feels as if the car is about to stall), it would then correct itself back on to the 750 idle speed.

At first I thought it may have something to do with my faulty tranny, but I am riding on a new tranny now and the same problem has occured. It happens in HOT and COLD start situations alike..

Does anyone have a similar problem? Any cures?

Sounds like a carburator problem I had w/ my Escort back in the days

But since we have fuel injectors, perhaps that's what's wrong. Just my $0.0000000002. I don't know enough for my advice to be worth $0.02.

Because of the large number of possibilities here I would urge you to contact your dealer for a look see at this problem.Hard starting or rough starting can be numerous things starting with the simple like a clogged fuel filter or poor fuel quality ranging out to more complex issues like low fuel pressure vacuum leaks computer related failures defective sensors etc.It is helpful for you to make a small log of what the car does when the car exhibits the problem.Note if the car was hot or cold type of fuel in the tank .This sort of information can be quite helpful in establishing the actual fault and correcting it.Jens

Thanks for the help Jens, I will take it in next week...

BTW: Can a fault be registered on the ECU for this type of problem?

Unless the check engine lite is on the ECU did not record a fault but the dealer can use what is called a "PGM tester" to take a "snapshot" of the problem while it is occurring. This snapshot can be triggered either by the ecu detecting a fault or the technician taking the "snapshot" of the problem manually. This information can then be transmitted to Acura for further diagnosis.ABout thirty seconds of data is logged from all the vehicle sensors before and after a problem. This information can then be used to diagnose a problem that does not set a code. The key thing ofcourse is getting the problem to happen in the first place. And that can be tough as cars seem to have a mysterious habit of "fixing"themselves as soon as a mechanic goes near the car.Jens
