Dropped off my calipers at the powdercoater last Friday along with the rebuild kit.
I ordered Motul 5.1 brake fluid, Russel SS brake lines, and EBC RedStuff pads which should should all be arriving in the mail soon.
I just received my Brakemotive rotors last week or so.. I can't wait to have everything installed!

Well the tranny was replaced about 300 miles ago and the car drives and shifts perfectly. i notice that the lights come on mostly when im turning sharply and when there are bumps as well.
The CEL only came on because i had a HFC installed and it hasn't come back on since i installed a defouler.

I brought my car to the mechanic today to install my RL calipers along with installing new pads and rotors as well. I brought SS lines and he told me that the SS lines didn't fit (something along the lines of "bubble flare" etc). He said that with the Russell SS lines it will not seal correctly and will eventually leak because it has different flares... it could be dangerous to put them on.
Anybody use the Russel SS lines on the 3G TL base AT non-Brembo? Part number is 684690.
I'm going to be flushing out all my brake fluid soon at a friend's place, I'm torn between using it or return it because I've heard some people used it without any problem. Help!

The fitting shouldnt be vastly different. Ive been running Russel lines since I put the RL calipers on my car without an issue.

Yeah there's a difference apparently. I cross referenced a bunch of other SS lines for the CL and the TL.. and they all have different part numbers. Think I'm just going to return these and complain to Russell. I believe the 2G TL can use these but not the 3G. On their site it says 99-06 TL.. which is weird because the 07-08 TL should be able to use it as well.
Thanks for the help guys.. I'll probably go with Techna-Fit or XLR8 as they have the correct lines for the TL. It's a pretty critical part that I don't want to really "experiment" with.

Im confused about "bubble flare" though, what does he mean by that? Is he referring to the stock hardlines?

So what sort of flare are on the lines?
What lines do other 3G owners run?

I posted something on my progress page in regards to the Russell 684690 lines on the 3G TL.

The Russell lines are compatible with CL's and the 2G TL's but not the 3G TL's.

I bought a set of Russel SS Brake Lines a month or so ago from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Russell-Edelbr...russell+684690). I brought it to my mechanic to get it installed with my RL BBK and he told me it wasn't compatible. Told me the flare on the lines wasn't compatible with my car and if he were to install them, they could leak.
At first I didn't believe him because a few 3G guys on AcuraZine had them installed without any problems but I didn't take the chance and had them use the old rubber lines.
I ordered XLR8 SS lines on Sunday night and they arrive today (Thanks XLR8!). After looking at the lines, I now know what my mechanic was talking about.
Here you have the end for the XLR8 lines:
Here you have the end for the Russell lines:
There's a huge difference between the two.. so don't buy Russell 684690 SS lines if you own a 3G TL! They're listed wrong on Amazon and other sites. From what I was told if the lines don't create a seal, there's a possibility it could leak and the results can be fatal.

I bought 2005 350Z Brembo rotors from Brakemotive and I bought the RL rebuild kit from AutoZone. The rebuild kit seems to be holding up well (no leaks or anything so far). You're going to have to buy RL pads, I bought EBC Redstuff pads and they're pretty good as well. No squeaks or anything. I bought my SS brake lines from XLR8 and I have no complaints, the brake pedal feels great.

Ummm. No.
You put the bracket in through the wrong end of the caliper. Also, notches in the bracket go against the knuckle. So if youre looking at the knuckle from the side of the car, youll see:
-Head of bolt
-Washer
-Knuckle
-Bracket
Then the caliper slides onto the bracket. That is:
-Nut
-Washer
-Caliper
-Bracket
The caliper is intended to be a friction fit on the bracket. Do not trim the tabs that appear to contact the bracket first. Just tighten the caliper down further. The tabs are there to bite into the aluminum and create a better fit so the caliper doesnt move around.
