It's a teen thing. When I was 16 we all turned the air cleaner cover over to get the sound of the carb sucking air. So my 78 Civic sounded really bad ass. :-)

I wouldnt say its a teen thing, i'm a teen and i dont like things on my car calling attention to themselves, thats part of the reason i dont want to get new exhaust (besides the money)

Its more of a "i'm soo cool, look at my new exhaust tip" kinda thing.
