Replacement bulbs for fog lights
Replacement bulbs for fog lights
I live in South Louisiana and rarely see another CL, much less a CL-S. Last night I saw one behind me and said to my girlfriend, "Look, there is another car like mine!" She said, "That can't be yours, you don't have those big ulgy lights down there!" "Ohh, yes I do!!!"
I never really looked at them before. They look bad. They are not ever a close match.
I know many off you have changed them to a closer match. I am now interested.
Yes, i could do a search, but I don't have good luck with them and probably would not understand. Could y'all please help me out.
1) I have heard that the wattage has been too high on some and have melted the housing (I don't want these)
2) What is the closest match to the headlights and where can I get them and how much $$$$$
I am sure this is something I can do myself. I am more mechanically inclined than your avarage Joe.
Thanks for all the help. Y'all do really make owning this car even better. Enjoy the holidays and be careful.
P.S. - Don't forget to pull for LSU tonight at 7pm, my time, as we beat Tennesse for the SEC championship. After we beat them, we will be in the Sugar Bowl in the Superdome, if anyone is looking to get me a Christmas present. HINT HINT.

I did a little research on my own.
Findings:
The two most popular are the: PIAA 19169 and the Polarg M6.
From the pictures I saw, correct me if I am wrong, the M6's look like they match the stock headlights a little better than the 19169's.
I am not to carzy about them melting my housings. Is there any way to put a heat sheild around it? Like alumminum foli are something.
Any input or other suggestions would be greatly apprecaited!

Get the m6. They MIGHT melt the housings, but most don't. If you ar that concerned, you have to go w/ 5 watters, unless there is something you can do to shield the housings that I don't know about.

Anyone have a digital picture of those three plastic caps that you have to remove to get the splash guard off? I can't find the third one.... I looked in the book but the diagram doesn't look like the actual car. One of my roads is out... It needs replacement. I can see the filament is busted.
first of all. With M-6.s you wont melt the housing I have had them in for 16,000 miles and i HAVE NOT turned my lights off...EVER
Second of all, much easier to replace if you loosen the one phillips screw and snap oput each lense and you dont even get your hands dirty.
TIP.... use a flexible shaft phillips

i don't htink anyone has melted roadlamps. they may be deformed because of heat, but not melted (as in liquified).
i have deformations right above the lightbulb, but that's because i experimented with 35w halogens awhile back.
now i have piaa 19224's which are like m6's, but i took the blue coat off of it so it looks more like a regular light instead of the blue/hid look that i didn't want (wanted some contrast).

Long shaft philips from the front of the car, to the center side of the bulb housing, you can undue the philips screw that holds the housing inplace. The screw will not come "out" but allows you to pop the housing out to the front. doing it this way there is less chance of braking the bulb.

Actually, I found the the instructions in the owners manual easier than trying to take out the whole unit through the front.
one clip is right near the front, one to the side, and the other one is back toward the engine more. The trick to the clips is to bring the center portion down first then bring the clip out...you'll see how it works when it is out.
I found it somewhat hard to get the one clip on each side back in as you're tryint to connect two 'floating' pieces of plastic, but you can get your fingers up in there to hold the the two pieces together.
When you have the access flap pulled down, it is very easy to stick your hand up behind the light, twist the unit and remove the bulb. The M6 is bigger but mine went right in with no problems.
The color does match that of the headlights.
PS: After it took me 20 minutes to do the one side, the other side took about 2 mintues.

Defnitely go with the PIAA's. I got those and they match very well. I live in Austin and there are a few CL's, but so far I have only seen one other car besides mne that has matching lights. My buddies always call me on my cell and let me know they see me driving down the freeway....They always tell me how cool the lights look too......

Thanks, mrdeeno! Yeah, I think I'll go for the PIAAs, just because they won't melt anything.

I think the PIAA 18W ones have the same chance in melting the housing as the M6. So dont get the PIAA just cause you think they wont melt the housing, unless u get the 5w PIAA which if u go that way, I would get the M4 which is same 5w but in my opinion, match the headlights better.

I'll check out the M4s too then.
Thank you all.
