Replace warped rotor with what?

I searched the archives for an answer, but couldn't find one. I'm sure this question has been asked before, so I'm sorry for repeating it. If I replace my warped rotors with aftermarket rotors, what kind should I buy? And what size? Also, can I then continue to install factory brake pads or do I need to purchase aftermarket brake pads too?

I am getting shake in my steering wheel when I brake at speeds above 40 mph. I just want some good advice before I approach my dealer, Acura of Boardman. Thanks guys.

And is there a better forum to post this thread in, or is "Car talk" the proper area? Later!

tdtsai, so does that mean I CAN get Brembo rotors, for example and then continue to use Acura pads? Please explain.

What is your kind of driving?

I got the Brembo Replacement Rotor from tire rack too.

Just use either OEM Pads or aftermarkets like EBC GreenStuff.

Just replace the pads when doing the rotors.

Be advised that if your car is under warranty and you have warper rotors the dealer must replace them along with the pads. The new pads are designed to eliminate the warping problem. There is a service buliten out there about this but not surre what I did with the number.

Look at my sig. I have been with this set up for about three months. I do not have any warping issues and I drive the car pretty hard (a lot of highway breaking). I strongly recommend it.

The last time I got my rotors resurfaced I didn't notice on there that it said the pads were replaced. Is this normal? Or does your service reciept usually say "pads replaced" I'm starting to feel a vibration again... 6k miles later

The service bulliten for this problem specifies that the pads should be replaced. They should also replace the rotors, not resurface (at least my dealer did. If you do not have the service bulliten to refer to they will try to get away with not replacing the pads. However, it is the composition of the original brake pads that causes the rotors to warp, and a turned rotor warps easier because it is thiner.

I've seen the bulliten and it says if the rotor is warped beyond repair it is to be replaced, otherwise they can be resurfaced. But you are right... they should have given me pads.

I spoke to my dealer, and they said that they would replace the front rotors with no questions asked. They didn't even look at them...they just scheduled me for an appointment to have it done. Boy, that was easy enough.

So I guess I will have Acura replace them for free and wait to see how long they last before I do more searching for aftermarket rotors. But thanks for the suggestions anyways. I will keep this in mind when I decide to go aftermarket; which I'm sure will happen evidentually.

Same with my dealer. They just replaced them without question once it was determined they were warped.

Remember to have them replace the pads as well as specified in the service bulliten. If you use the old pads the rotors will warp again.
