For those of us with a 2001, the wind noise coming from the side mirrors is kind of annoying at freeway speeds. I believe they were slightly tweaked for 2002-2003 which reduced the wind noise and they went to the body color of the car rather than the two tone black/body color. Has anyone undertaken such an endevour to swap them out? If so how difficult is it and was it worthwhile in the end?

never heard anything about the wind noise but there are a few members who have swapped the mirrors out. from what ive read its not a hard process.

 

If you follow this link on Wikipedia it even talks about the wind noise from the mirrors! It looks like it was redeisgned for 2003 and not 2002 like I thought. Check it out:

ive never had an issue my mirrors.

 

i wrote that entry in wikipedia. there was a news release about the change, but it did occur for MY02.

not sure about whether 02-03 mirrors will fit on an 01, but as others have said, people on the board have done it before.

if you check the black market, there is a set for $100 (white).. that's about as cheap as you'll find for a set

It's probably because either you may not have an issue (maybe it's not every vehicle), you are used to it, or maybe your previous vehicle wasn't exactly quiet. This noise was the first thing I noticed when I took delivery of my vehicle. My previous car, a Toyota Supra, had almost no noise coming from the mirror location. I've had this car for 10 years so why I am complaining about it now? I'm not really sure. Maybe it's because I'm bored at work.

 

Ive heard of that issue on the early models.

The 03 mirrors bolt right up btw. E30 did it.

 

the mirrors are smaller, so that helps. but like others have said, its direct fit and only came in 03s.
