Removed Resonator+K&N vs. AEM CAI

Does anyone know which one really gives the better performance. However, the real question is, what has a nicer deeper/non ricer rumble to it, the resonator removed from the stock airbox or whatever, or the AEM CAI? Anyone have sound clips maybE?

you may want to wait on this question (if you have the patience) until the new comptech intake comes out. Add a new intake to the list of intakes you are comparing, especially if you are thinking about buying an intake.

The comptech intake has a better dyno run compared to the AEM FYI.

I'm going to do a test when i get my car on a dyno. First stock then I'll be taking out the resonator and using the K&N.

Performance gains are negligable between the two, but the CAI has a MUCH better sound (IMO)...

I don't know if a sound clip would really do the sound justice, when VTEC switches cam profiles, and you are @ WOT, the sound is very nice.

Is it a deep rumble type of sound.. or a real high pitched sound? I want the deep rumble type of sound... not really the high pitched ricer sound... and when is this comptech intake coming out?

That would be very interesting. Anyone notice that AEM posted the 21-509 (6spd) intake dyno???

Best I can describe is a higher rev sound, not high pitch, but not in the american muscle car low zone.

Kinda porche sounding (to me), but amplified. Very refined. No rice.

NO FLAMES FOR THE ONES WHO DISAGREE!!

it's not a high pitch sound at all, it is a deep rumble,

my integra gs-r when it's vtec kicked in was a sweet sound to the ears for a racer. not ricer at all. i miss it everyday, may it rest in peace, stupid hit and run driver.

The GS-R motor had the best sound when VTEC actuates.... especially since is DOHC... the exhaust-note change is very dramatic when you don't have a cat and a nice fat header and exhaust.

Zapata... when you do the intake dyno comparison... make sure to add a nice 4" x 1-foot long heater-duct from the base of the air-box to the front-bumper.

I am VERY curious to see this setup vs. the IceBox vs. the AEM vs. Stock

are you saying the bottom line is to spend $200 more dollars and get the AEM CAI?

Never heard the IceBox. If it is for the sound though, and the performances are the same, my pref would be the CAI.

Funny though, I had an Injen on my TLP and an AEM on my CLS. I think the Injen had a better sound. The AEM seems ever so slightly muffled compared to the Injen.

Maybe the cars though...

how do you know the comptech will be quiet if it hasn't been released to the public?

If you’ve been following the development of the Ice Box from Comptech they have been saying all along that it will be quiet.
I think that was actually one of their design criteria because many people DON’T like the “howl” that a CAI provides at full power.

I think they screwed up on this one though because most people that do MODS are going to want that sound.
Preliminary DYNO’s show more power then AEM, but only by 3 or 4 HP I believe.
