Remote & Shift Gate Plate? Jens, HELP

I was wondering if you found out if the TL-S Remote works with our CL-S? Also, the shiftgate plate is it is to remove? and also can we replace this with a polished aluminum unit? and if you know someone who can make one for us in polished aluminum? Thanks for all your input!!!!

As of today(friday) we only have recieved I believe 4 new TL/S.I have not done any pre delivery inspections but as soon as I do I will try out the remotes. To remove the shift gate plate is not too bad of a job if you require some help e-mail me or let me know thru the forum. As far as getting one in alloy I am afraid you are alone the piece is a bit more complex than it looks.I suppose with some basic tools and a piece of flat plate alloy one could come up with an overlay similar to what is used by many aftermarket companies that make those wood kits etc.Jens

What's the difference between the CL-S keys and Tl-S remotes? Please don't tell me that it's only a one piece key/remote like the Benz and Bimmers....I would KILL for one of those.

To take off the shift gate you need to first remove the plastic piece around it. You can pull it off with your fingers using steady, even pressure. Then, the tabs that hold the shift gate piece in place will be revealed. You will need a small, flat blade screwdriver or similar tool to depress the tabs. You will have to unscrew the shift knob to completely remove the shift gate piece.

I think building a REAL shiftgate IS possible here folks..

On the way to work it hit me!

This is my theory of how to duplicate the plastic shiftgate and size to create a metal one (which can then be painted or chrome dipped.

You would need to create a molding of the OEM shiftgate. I was thinking of using CLAY to form the cast. Basically you would press the clay around the oem shiftgate and make it so you could pour melted metal into it. (Kind of like solder) then once it dries, You could then cut it to the right demensions.

I can't really explain it to easy, but I can visualize it perfectly. I used to mold little Chess pieces back in metal shop in highschool this same way, however the cast was pre-made. If there was a shure fire way of getting the cast made correctly for our chiftgate, this might happen!!!!

I might have to take a drive to my old highschool and talk with my old teacher and see if he can suggest anything.

I am in the works of developing some Door thresholds and this shiftgate for us. I'll keep the ideas fresh on my mind and maybe start to get these projects rolling in the next few weeks to come.

That would be one way to accomplish this, the other way to do this is to have the piece in hand and make a computer representation of it.I have a program called "Autocad" that can make 3 dimensional models and dimension them etc the program can then be sent to a prototype shop that can load this program directly into a milling machine and create the part out of any metal you desire and have the wallet to pay for.Or you could purchase from a company called "Foliatec"their styling film that simulates an alloy surface or carbon fiber etc. This product can readily be cut and applied decal style to the surface of the shift gate.I have used this stuff in the past an had good results but ofcourse it is just a plastic film. For the ultimate in looks you would want a alloy part made up.Jens
