Remember all the sunroof problems? Well....
.... people were complaining about the sunroof noise while it was open, right?
My Mom's '00TL has developed an annoying sunroof noise ONLY while it's closed. I haven't looked at it yet, but it sounds like a creaking/groaning sound. Every time she hits a bump, even a tiny bump, the sunroof creaks/groans......
Maybe the rubber parts (seals/weatherstrip) are starting to dry out?
Anyone have any similar experiences?

Yeh, it's the same sound I have. I used to have rattling but the dealer fixed that. This new noise is definitely rubber-based and seems to me more prevelant during warmer weather.
I'll get my dealer to look at it when I go in for the 15k check up.

Yes (assuming it is the same sound that we hear in our CL-S'). This has been discussed at length. The sunroof needs an application of Acura Magic Tape. There has been a service bulletin issued for this problem for the CL.</STRONG>

Does the service bulletin pertain to closed sunroof problems?
Most definately take it to the dealer and have them apply some Honda Magic Tape....should fix your problem right up!! Did mine. I thought it was a rattle in the back parcel area....NOPE....it was the damn sunroof. Annoying but easily fixable. They'll be more than happy to help you out.

Tom I have this problem. No prob when the sunroof is open. When it is closed and it is more 75 degrees out, man that thing squeeks. Very, very annoying. I've had this prob soon after I got the car but then winter hit and the prob stopped. Now it it is back with a vengance. Triple the squeeking than when it was new.

GGuys, i don't want to sound like a broken record but I gits a question for you all. Is this related to the Wind deflector boucing against the other piece of plastic which in turn generates an annoying noise? I have a fairly recent built CL (05/01) and was wondering if this was the same problem.
Hey...like I said....a little Magic Tape'll do the trick. When you say Wind deflector do you mean the little deflector or the one you add as an extra?! It certainly shouldn't be the latter. It could be the small one, and I haven't looked to see where they applied the Magic Tape, but if you do that.....you'll fine. PROMISE. I've read tons of threads that have had the same issue and the Tape cured ALL!!

The TSB is for the squeak with the sunroof closed and the shade open. The fix is the clear tape that the dealer applies.
However, I would venture to say that if you use Zaino and apply some Z2/Z6 on the little 1/4 inch lip that you can see when the sunroof is tilted up, the squeak would disappear. Try it and post back here.

The problem when the sunroof was open was a loud buffeting or booming sound which some members likened to a helicopter trying to land on your car. There's a seaperate TSB for that - the dealer will adjust the little metal deflector that pops up when the sunroof slides back.
The squeaky-when-closed problem is much more prevalent for us.
I just had mine fixed, but the freaking thing still makes noise. Less noise, but still annoys.
Stupid dealer told me this was as good as it gets and that I'm too picky.
Bastard.

I can only comment on the sunroof-closed-sunshade-opened squeaking. Mine was rattling and squeaking something fierce. Then the dealer applied the tape aroung the edge on the roof opening and it's been quiet as a church ever since. The car just feels a lot tighter.
Here's what's going on with Acura Sunroofs..
#1 When driving between 25-30 and another higher speed(forgot) WITH THE ROOF OPEN, the metal wind deflector will make a loud booming noise (almost like BAss from your woofers) This in ONE of the reported COMMON problems
#2 When the moonroof is CLOSED and the sunshade is open, you will hear the glass squeeking between the rubber seal and the glass. This cam be tested by simply pushing upward on your moonroof and hearing for the noise. This seems to be the bigger of the two problems. Some people have reported using greese, some tape. Some even have had their glass replaced. I would simply bring it into acura and DEMAND they fix BOTH #1 and #2 problems, since this is probably on ALL ACURAS ever made recently. It is a designers flaw!
Hope this helps/clears things up a bit.

Thanks Jayru2. I have problem # 2. If the sunroof is opened I hear rattling on bad roads but if i push the sunshade all the way back, the noise goes away. I never experienced problem # 1. Maybe because of the sunroof visor.

Nope. I have this problem and I don't have a wind deflector, neither the pop-up one nor the the exterior one.

Its when the sunroof is closed, but the hand operated shade is open. I guess the sunshade blocks enough of the sound that you can't hear it when its pulled closed. Acura magic tape took care of my problem. Unfortunately my rear deck rattle returned when I had the windows tinted.</STRONG>

I had this problem too. They removed my opo-up deflector and no more problems.
Okay, I'm gonna venture and say that they prolly fixed this as my car has a build date of 5/01... The annoyance is all I have, where the small internal wind deflector *chatters* when wind hits it.
