Registration cost in your state?

Question for everyone...what's the CL-S cost to register in your state? I'm registered in CO right now, and it cost me $24 because I was military, but to renew, it'll cost me $580 since I'm not military anymore. I've heard it's about the same in VA, so I'm looking for another state to register in. To make it legal, usually all you have to do is buy some property or claim residency there (friends address usually works). Thanks,

If you're talking about renewing your license plates every year and registereing a new car, it's only about $25 in Missouri.

I just got my tabs renewal for Minnesota. Thanks to Gov. Ventura, we now only pay a maximum of $190. Before this year, you had to pay based on a scale of how new it was and how much the car cost. I used to drive a 92 lincoln continental and it cost me about $300 a year. My CLS would've cost me almost a grand under the old system.

Okay, i busted out the paperwork from when i bought my car last august.
Base Value: $30,785
Full Purchase Price; $29,460
6.5% Tax: $1914.90

Registration Tax + $: $394.00
Plates: $3.00
Lien Fee: $2.00
State Patrol Fee: 3.50
Transfer Tax: $4.00
Title/Transfer Fee: $4.00
Motor Vehicale Sales Tax: $1914.90
Filing Fee: $3.50
Total Due: $2326.90

AGGGHHHHHHHHHH Damn fees up the wazoo.

In Texas, it costs me $70/yr plus $15 for an inspection. When I was in the USAF stationed in Delaware, a vehicle registration was a flat $20/yr (that included the inspection)!

Here in California, it is based upon the value of the vehicle! I paid $454 in May this year, then received a check back for around $120-ish, as a rebate adjustment due to some newly passed legislation.(?)

So, it ended up costing approx. $330-$335 net

Don't forget the NC 3% highway usage fee. To reg. in NC you'll need to pay 3% of you cars value - which will run you close to a grand as well.

Thanks for all the info...looks like MA and MS are the way to go. I've also checked into PA and that seems pretty cheap: 22.50 title, 36 registration, 7.50 for plates. Total w/o inspection is 56. I've definitely decided not to register where I live...now to "acquire" an address in one of those other states...

Yup. Only $36 a year in PA. I can live with that. I had thought CA was one of the only states that based it on car cost. Guess I was wrong.

In georgia it is still based on the value of the vehicle. SO I would guess somewhere around 300-350$ .
