Redline Racing Transmission Fluid
Redline Racing Transmission Fluid
The "search" function isn't working, so I'm posting this question:
Is it worth it?
Has anyone here switched to Redline Racing Transmission Fluid? Have you noticed any improvement?
I'm running N2O, and want the best protection from my tranny fluid. I already have a tranny cooler.
Thanks!

I believe they Comptech recommends using Redline Tranny fluid if your using the supercharger. But I dunno about NOS. There a few people on here running NOS and they haven't mentioned anything about switching out their tranny fluids.
Hey Dust, when I had the suspension work done on my car I had the tranny drained and flushed. I ask, not specifically about Redline, but about synthetics in general. The dude told me that Honda Tranny fluid is some of the best out there and said the expense wasn't really worth changing it, not that the Honda fluid is cheap!
The garage was in no way associated with Acura so I took it as a non bias opinion. Of course, I to installed a tranny cooler after reading about all the failures here. I say better safe then sorry, since I'll be running Nitrous soon to.

www.hparts.com (at specials section) Honda z1 trans fluid $2.89 Qt,,, with shipping my total cost was $ 3.30 really hard to beat this price anywhere.. I had contacted Amsoil about their synthetic trans oil,,, they replied to only use Honda Z1,,, soooo if the experts say to use Honda and not their product .......
Some people on here and on atl.com have contacted Redline about their tranny fluid and Redline themselves recommended using Honda ATF in our cars.... so that should tell you something.

dustbuster, there hasn't been much talk about the use of these products on this site. Go over to accordv6.com and there are a good detailed conversations.

Tranny Cooler?
Is this something I ask for at the dealership? or do I have to get that aftermarket? Is it a mechanical device or another form of fluid? Thanks in advance!!

aftermarket, haden and B&M both make units. You attach it to the oil lines in your transmission and mount it in front of your radiator. It acts sort of as a radiator for your transmission.
I have a question, Is it bad when changing tranny fluid to add more than the required amount of tranny fluid?
I drove my car up on ramps yesterday and changed my oil (amsoil 20w-50 racing) and my transmission fluid (Honda ATZ) at the same time. but alot of the tranny fluid leaked to the ground and made a big puddle on the driveway b/c the funnel's mouth had to fit over the hole for the tranny fluid instead of fitting into the hole (they make it soo small). So i added another bottle, but then when I checked the dipstick, it was like way above the full line. I drove it around and the car feels fine, but i was wondering if this will harm the transmission by having too much fluid in it ? By the way, it's a good idea when adding new tranny fluid to put a clean pan under there to catch all the clean tranny fluid that leaks out to recycle it, otherwise you just waste all that fluid and make a big mess.
the reccomened amount is 2.7- 2.9 quarts. I think i have maybe 3.5 - 4 quarts in there.

You want the REDLINE HIGH-TEMP ATF
Comptech sells it and uses it (not the racing stuff):
Synthetic High-Temp ATF provides the gear protection of a GL-4 gear oil in an ATF and provides a higher viscosity at higher operating temperatures, allowing the transmission to operate at 70°F higher temperature and still provide the optimal shiftability and improved torque converter efficiency. The evaporation characteristics are significantly improved, being twice as good as our Synthetic ATF and five-times better than a petroleum ATF. The improved thermal stability significantly reduces the rapid evaporation of the ATF which can produce a frothing out the filler tube. The balanced frictional characteristics provides smooth and consistent shifts for extended drain intervals. The superior stability compared to petroleum ATFs allows high-temperature operation without varnishing valves and clutches which leads to transmission failure. HighTemp ATF is perfect for heavily-loaded vehicles which see high temperatures and automatic transaxles which are benefitted by the extreme-pressure protection of a GL-4 gear oil to lubricate the final drive. This product can be used in manual transmissions which require ATFs and will provide much better gear protection than a petroleum ATF; however, MTL® will provide better wear protection and better low-temperature shiftability in most manual transmissions which call for an ATF. High-Temp ATF is suitable for use in automatic and manual transmissions and transaxles where Dexron III, Dexron II or Mercon is recommended.

Thanks, everyone, for your input.
I just decided to go with the Honda ATF. I'll just flush it more often (like every 10K to 15K).
It takes 3.1 quarts per change (for the '97 3.0 Liter). So 10 quarts took care of it!

i recently recieved a service flyer from the local honda dealer, Beaverton Honda. there were coupons for tranny flush and refill using redline fluid, even had the redline logos in several places on the flyer.
