I've never seen a recall on the front rotors. But they are horrible. After I've machined them once about 14,xxx miles ago, they're already going tits up. Go slotted or cross-drilled OEM size disks or BBK if you want better performance.

No recall.. but there is a TSB (technical service bulletin) on 'em... Inskip Acura changed my pads and resurfaced my rotors about 30K miles ago, and that seemed to do the trick...

See my post in the CL info thread (linked in orange at the top of the forum) for a scan of the TSB.

Your not getting them done under warranty. Forget about it.
Your way over the allowed milage for good will. Not to mention your not the orginal owner & you bought it used.

I had them fixed twice under warranty. I had to throw a fit about it to get them to do it the 2nd time though. After that, I never jammed on the brakes hard again unless I had to and they were fine.

How long ago? How many miles did you have? A co worker has a TLP & his are really bad. I feel it in the back seat & at low speed. He tried & they wouldn't. 3 different dealers he went to. He make a stink at each one. He has 45K miles. They wanted $400. Turn rotors & new pads.

even if I had to stop short I ease into the brakes then I apply the force needed to stop the car. ALL FWD cars will smoke rotors with repeated hard stopping since they provide about 90% of the stopping power. I only step hard if THERE is really NO OTHER CHOICE and then I use the engine to help in those cases

My first 03 CLS (was used) had warped rotors at about 12k miles. Dealer warrantied replacing the rotors. My 2nd 03 CLs has not had rotor warping as far as I can tell, at 35k miles.

When should the pads be replaced? Just had an oil change at dealer and on their 'inspection' list they marked that my back pads were at 10mm, but the fronts were like 4mm and 6mm.
They said everything 'checked out fine' on the car.

It depends on how "helpful" the dealership is.

That's a good question. The limit is 1.6mm... check out B on the right hand column here:

http://john-perry.com/acurazine/docu...aintenance.pdf

When I had mine done at 22.5K miles, I didn't really notice that they needed to be done, the dealership told me I had the problem... It was partly "good will" since they wore out my rear pads from incorrectly adjusting the parking brake @ 15K miles They resurfaced and put on new pads all around. I've haven't gone back since

Regardless, I'm gone 30K miles, and they seem fine. No vibration in the steering wheel on panic stops (and yeah, I've had the ABS kick on quite a few times since the brakes were redone).

thanks for the info,

So much for Acura 'precision' service. the chart shows rear pads are 8-9mm I assume new, and Acura measured mine at 10mm with 35k miles?
So my pads got thicker with 35k miles use. Maybe that chart is for automatics and 6 speed brake pads were thicker? I doubt it tho.

Geez, thats an insane amount of money to turn some rotors. He'd be better off replacing them with cheapies.

I don't know the exact milage that was on my car when they did it. I want to say the first time was right after I got it, just under 40k and then the second time was mid 40k's. The car was still under warranty at the time but it was about to run out. My warranty ended on 6/28/05 I believe. I had it in the shop just prior to that for a drivers window issue as well as the brakes.

At first they weren't going to do it, so I got pissed and brought up the TSB that I know damn well they knew about. About 20mins later the service advisor came up to me in the lounge where I was waiting and said "we know you're a bit upset about the brake issue so we're going to go ahead and fix it even thought it's been "fixed" before."

Tried the TSB thing too, Didn't work. They said the car had too many miles for them to cover it.
