rear view mirror is too loose

anyone have an idea as to how i can make my rearview mirror not as loosey goosey? after i hit a series of minor bumps on the road my mirror starts to drop until i can no longer see out the back. instead, i have a great view of my shirt and the back seat. its so loose and i can't figure out how to make the damn thing tighter.

Sham do a search...

I found out the material used for the mirror is POT METAL... aka cheap shit..

if you bend it back and forth so many times it wears out.... be real careful pushing the mirror on the tab of the windshield you can easily crack the windshield (trust me, I should know)
it is a break away mirror... if you ever get into an accident itis suppose to pop off the windshield... they use that so you are not impelled by a rearview if something comes through your windshield..

2 things you can do... pop off the back cover push the mirror on and then squirt CLEAR SILICONE all over and around the pot metal... put the plate back on...
or
you can take your car to ANY windshield repair place and they will do the same thing and charge you for it..

The Clear silcone comes off the glass and pot metal if there is ever an issue and you need to change your rear view mirror out... so it is safe and will not cause any issues... it will hep out greatly.

hope that helps.

my mirror's pretty much the same way...i live in PA where construction is a constant and you're stuck driving over rumble strips and every time i go over them, my mirror is pointing down at the backseat. I took it to my acura dealership and they said there's a clip towards the windshield that's broken and it'd cost $300-$400 to replace the mirror. He suggested i go to a junkyard to get a new one. I got one off ebay for $60 shipped. You may have to do the same. Now I just gotta worry about installing it when it comes.

Ask Honda to replace your mirror. They should do it because it is a safety device. My

haha the base of the mirror assembly is attached to the windshield....there is a ball socket directly behind the mirror itself...thats the part that is real loose, and thats why my mirror keeps tilting down. im reluctant to put silicone in there because i don't think thats what you guys are talking about. i feel as though you guys are under the impression that the entire mirror assembly is just dangling by wires. so i'm just hoping for some tips so i don't have to go and spend $160 to get a new mirror installed. i dunno, maybe im the only one who's had this problem so far.

ps, im not under warranty

okay so you are telling us that you pushed the mirror onto the clip firmly and still have this issue?

what is so funny...?... that ball socket rests on that clip.. and if it is not pushed firmly onto the clip the mirror will sag or bounce while driving.

did you take the back piece off the mirror and try and gently push it onto the clip?

And your point is?

Call Acura Customer Support warranty or not. The mirror is a safety device like CLSWHITE said. Honda should cover it. Never hurts to ask.

that silver ball is exposed and so is a metal ring. the metal ring just bounces around freely. im assuming something has broken off the back of the mirror. im guessing my only choice at this point is to buy a new mirror.

i had my windshield replaced a year ago after i nailed a bird. im assuming the halfass craftsmanship has lead me to this problem. i doubt acura will do anything since i had the windshield replaced by some random company, but ill call them anyway. ill just buy a new mirror though if they won't replace it.

hold up before you buy a mirror...

take it off and snap some pictures...

let me check the parts list on the mirror.. you might be missing a simple .63 cents clip.

I recommend you take the mirror off... you got a helms manual?

if not I can fax you a copy of the page you need or we can get ShawnS to scan the page..

if you do not want to do this yourself.. I recommend you go to ANY winshield repair place and ask them to take the mirror off so you can fix it...

once it is off then you will be able to tell exaclty what is loose and figure out if you can replace it or if it is pressed on there...

report back what happens..

your welcome. just do not pry on the mirror.. you will crack the friggen windshield... I should know.. I made that mistake and it cost me 220.00 bucks

well i fixed it, for the time being. i pulled it out of the socket gently, and rotated it til it was upside down, and then i pushed it back in. its clear now that i actually need to replace the mirror because an important piece of plastic has broken off somehow. but only half of that circle of plastic broke off (the bottom half of it). so, thats why the mirror would tilt down all the time. since i flipped it upside down, it can't tilt down anymore. that should last me long enough until i can buy a new mirror (i am a college student after all).

since the word "auto" is upside down on the mirror now, i covered it up with black electrical tape. its amazing how well the two blend together. thanks for all the help guys.

bawahahaha... that was great!... good idea..

that plastic piece the mounting spring and washer I told you about?

you prolly need 19,20,22 and 24 in the above illustration... instead of replacing the whole mirror.
