Realistic cost for me to move to a 6spd?

OK, let's generalize a bit. I'm curious to what everyone thinks it'll cost me to move into a 6spd from my '02 with 9987 miles.

carsdirect.com has a price of $29998 for a 6spd with NAVI for the Chicago area, so I figure that's a good starting point. Anyone think I can do better than that number? Also, what do you think a dealer would charge to swap my comptech sways, strut bar and tires over to the 6spd?

In an IDEAL world, I'd like to do it all for 6K or less but I have my doubts if that'll happen. Fortunately, I have a good relationship with the dealer and service department. I hope that'll come into play somehow.

Thoughts???

last year, I would have said to go for it...like some of the other members have done. But at this point, why? Get something different...that is just my opinion.....

My experience was very bad here in TX...BUT I wanted to trade my 03! 6 speed, that's right, for a new 03 6 speed, dif color with Navi. I talked to 4-5 TX dealers and 1 in Florida. All wanted $7000-$7500 + my 03 with 5k miles, I couldn't take the hit.
Florida would have been $1500 more for shipping.

The cheapest I got was $2000+ttl + my 6 speed for a new red/tan 6speed, no Navi, that had sat on the dealer's floor for months. Don't want that color and I'm not going to do it and not get Navi.

Even the dealer I bought it from, and my Legend before that, didn't offer me anything better. Repeat customer? who cares.
I've been trying to sell my 6 speed myself for 2-3 weeks and no one calls. I just wanted to check out my options since I love the car and wanted a darker color and Navi for long-term. I'll be happy with what I have but I thought I could have upgraded for cheaper, no. This is the best car out there for what you get, and the 6 speed is makes it a super car.
Mine is a white/tan, 6500k miles now, mint.

See, here's the deal. I JUST finished paying this thing off. And I really don't want to assume a lot of car debit. I could get a M3 down to a CLS 6pd, but right now I don't want 30K in debt. I dunno... Maybe I'm f'ed in the head.

Yeah, if the Cl is paid, put the money in it or something fun.

Don't take the depreciation all over again.

Buy a bike.

My 2 cents.

Scrib: Dave with the PC'ed wheels here. Have you driven a 6 speed CLS enough to make a distinction? If not, and you can make it to my area, you can spin mine for an hour (not literally) if you wish. Really.

Have you looked at other cars (S2k I know)? I don't think you need an M3 to appreciate a change.....because its obvious you want something new. Have you given any thought to getting a 350Z? Evo (little harsh)? Saab 9-3 Vector? A4 3.0 (bit more expensive)? I'm just throwing cars out that are in the CL-S neighborhood, give or take.

Dave you crack me up.....every post I read from you starts out with "DAVE with the PC'ed wheels here" I think I'm going to do a search on your SN to confirm this intro of yours you have coined... lol

I see myself in a G35C rather than a 350Z. For the price I'd pay, I'd rather have a small backseat versus no back seat. I'll pass on the Evo. Not my cup of tea.

A4... Interesting thought. They do get pricey though. 40K??? And I never gave any thought to a Saab.

Oh and NO motorcycles.

Depreciation isn't such a big deal with me because I tend to keep my cars 8-10 years. So buyiung a new car for me kind of has more of an incentive due to the warranty, etc.

I'm not into bikes at all. I'd rather find a car that has a drivetrain that will last me. The CL is a great car, but as we know the 5AT is something we all wish was better.

We're going to drive the S2K tonight. I still haven't come to grips if it's practical enough for me/us. 2-seats, hardly a trunk...

scrib, based on the wording of yours posts regarding the s2k, you dont think it's practical.. you'd have to convince yourself that it is.. that, in and of itself, is reason to believe it's impractical..

and dont downgrade to a nissan from an acura.. go infinity, you have the right idea.. if anything.. i say keep the cl ... it's going to last.. and dont go through the depreciation again if you dont have to.. it's a waste of money.. for me, im keeping this car until it doesnt move anymore.. why spend thousands of dollars on something that will lose you money when you dont have to (of course if you have no car, then it's not unreasonable) ... i say stick with it.. ride it out.. the longer you have it, the more youll appreciate it.

if its a practicality issue, why not pick up a 500 dollar peice of shit ford taurus or something to use on bad weather days, days you need to haul shit around, or just use the wifeys car? i wouldnt let the practicality get in the way, the S2k is a beautiful machine, a stylish machine, and a respectable machine, unlike the american crappy build quality CL. the S2k was built in japan, its a whole new ball game.

He has an Audi, and Scrib ended up with a G35c 6 MT. I see the search function is going strong, welcome aboard.
