Question Re: Long-term storage

As some of you may know my CL has been chillin' with a blown engine for about 9 months now.

I anticipate replacing that motor at some point this summer.

What additional services should I purchase to get the CL healthy again from such a long hibernation?

Or...parts that should be replaced?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts you can share on the topic.

fuel stabilizer in the tank will help. Get the car on blocks if you can to keep your tires safe, trickle charge the battery.

Only problem is that I didn't do that before it sat...

I was planning on replacing the tires and battery anyways.

Think I would have to replace the gas tank and is it even worth putting fuel stabilizer in the tank at this point?

Being a dumbass...ran the car out of oil and blew something.

Long night, lesson learned.

Car still has power but I don't want to rebuild the same engine.

F*cking thing sounds like "The Incredible Machine"....

I never planned on the car sitting for this long but finances never afforded for me to properly take care of this matter.

I'm just afraid I just keep going into a deeper hole with fixing this and that...

At some point it's not worth it.

Well I was strongly considering the 3.5 Build but I just keep thinking it's going to be too much of a headache.

And I haven't found the right mechanic to do it.

glad to see your getting a move on the CL noah. I probably would just swap the new engine in and replace the fluids in the engine and maybe do the 105k service if its time on the new engine (before it goes in of course)

the battery and gas is probably still good. you could dump a bottle of demoisterizer or stabilizer into the gas tank and bring the battery to a auto parts place to get it charged. heck you could even get a jump from a buddy (lito lol) and just let the alternator charge it up. and if the tires arent bald and doesnt have any flat spots, I'd drive on them too.

are the heads still good on the engine? if not it'll probably be easier to just put a new 3.2 in.

definitely throw a bottle of stabil in the gas tank to freshen up your fuel, and I would drain and fill the tranny and give it fresh oil after the new engine is in place, other than that. Tires and battery like you said, I store my car every winter.

if it was oil starvation its most likely bottom end damage. keep the heads and put them on a new bottom end.

The cheapest and easiest way would be to do a 3.5L. Buy an oddy/MDX bottom end and put your CL heads & intake on.

thats cheaper and easier then getting another J32A2 and swapping that in? Remember that he's in SF, theres not a dismantler for probably 50+ miles around so im not sure how he could get a 3.5 bottom end.
not sure if you could run the stock ECU with a 3.5 swap either.

i didn't mean easier then a straight 3.2. I meant easier then doing the 3.6L. And all the swaps i've read about are using the 3.2 ECU with a FPR to run the car.

Drain the fuel tank. Its not worth it to put the Stabil in there, the fuel has sat for so long as it is. Fuel starts to go bad very quickly. Drain it before it gums up and you have to replace fuel lines.

Yeah I really wanted to do the 3.5 but given my location and resources it seems like it might be more difficult than I anticipated.

I need to probably drain the fuel...if there's potential to have something go wrong with bad fuel it isn't worth it.

Whats the easiest way to drain the fuel?

I didn't realize how old the gas was till I re-read, definitely use the drain plug on the gas tank and drain that sludge out of there.

Hey man, I feel for you on the engine damage, trust me if anyone can empathize with you, it's me.

As for the engine, I have a thread going about my engine swap. I kind of felt the same way as you about rebuilding the CL-S engine with odyssey parts, I wanted to keep the project pretty streamline even though the other route might produce better hp results.

So I just had an entire 03 Odyssey engine installed in my CL-S and I'm happy that I chose that route instead of the CL-S engine. There is really not much modification required to do this swap.

1.) Replace Ody engine harness with CL-S harness.
2.) Replace plenum and IMRC from CL-S onto Ody engine.
3.) Water Coolant pipe & thermostat need to be replaced.

That's it, I used the stock CL-S Ecu and so far so good.. (knock on wood)

The j35 and j32 engine pretty much cost the same used.

Good luck when you pull the trigger.

^ Cool. Thanks for the info.

Since I don't have a lot of engine experience "dumbing" down the information helps me to work out the cost.

I always wanted to do it if it was the same price...but I have to communicate this info. to another Mechanic.

I need it to be a smooth swap and have all the pieces ready for the install ahead of time.

I just want to be able to make an educated decision.

And to add to the list above, you can reuse your heads for more power.

Im sure there is a shop that knows how to replace a motor. Its not like theres any machining needed.

And if you can get the full Ody motor + trans, thats even better because you can use that and not have to worry about it blowing.

Yeah most definitely then...it's just one tank of gas.

Do they have an additive I can add to help clean it out when I add gas again?

I used fuel injector cleaner in the past but is there a preferred product on the market?

That's going to add a lot to my budget swap but worth noting if I'm going to keep the car indefinitely.

At this point I'm on the fence.
