Raced a Mustang Bullit tonight
We were at a stoplight, both took off slightly aggressively, each waiting for the other to floor it. I floor it down into 1st and take off. He does the same probably a tenth of a second after me and takes off. I probably jumped to a 2-3 car lead and either stayed at that or increased it slightly until I shut down just after shifting into 3rd. He then proceeded to go flying by me--fine by me.
I bet he was probably pretty pissed.
This is probably the best way to race in the CL. This is the way I beat the M3 last summer. Running this way you don't lose on the launch or by hitting 4th gear. The CLS is very strong in this range.

I'll try and find the article. Where's Pull_T when you need him...

Heh, way to go JZ. That's impressive considering that the Bullit is geared more aggressively and has some upgrades over the GT.

They should have made it with a tweaked Cobra engine to give it some power. I mean come on, Bullitt was a badass car (go watch the movie).

Bah, the Bullitt (note the spelling, btw) has like 5 more hp than a GT. IOW, it's just a bodykit and wheels. Bleh.

2. it does not include a "bodykit" per se, but does have the torque-thrust style wheels (which you can now get on the gt's) and the aircraft style fuel door cover
3. it has cobra style brake calipers (maybe rotors too)
4. it has an upgraded interior with different gauge faces and seat covers
5. it has the same tranny as the gt, but the rear-end gearing may differ
as long as we're dreaming about swapping the cobra engine into the bullitt, why not go whole hog and drop in the cobra r motor (with the six speed, natch)?

2. No bodykit, but it does have lowering springs (mildly lowered), and spoiler.
3. Yes, both, simply different paint scheme (red) on the Bullitt.
4. Main thing here is the seats, a HUGE improvment over the GT, in general comfort and side bolstering. Might not impress you CLS guys, but is worlds better than the GT and my Cobra.
5. Same everything. 5 speed tremec only in the Bullitt. Woefully high 3.27 rear gears.
Even among the Mustang/domestic crowd, there are many differing views on the Bullitt. Some love it, some think along the lines of JRock and say it's not worth the extra money.
I will say that I believe it is/was worth the extra money (roughly 2500) over a standard 2001 GT. Upgrading to Cobra 13" brakes alone will run 7-800 in parts, then you have the seats, tokico shocks and struts, subframe connectors and the Bullitt intake which many GT guys are converting to runs around a grand in parts.
As far as at the track, my experience has been that the Bullitt is .15-.20 faster than a GT under same conditions (driver/weather/tires/etc.).
Good kill by JZ, always a wise move to go after a faster car where you have an advantage.
