a lot of talk about headers and exhaust.
is it possible to do hi flo cats, exhaust and headers and still keep the car somewhat quiet?

what aftermarket exhaust is out there that still keeps the car somewhat quiet?

id like to do all of the above someday. but i dont want my car sounding like these ricer hondas out there tday

Do you realize that the CL-S has a high flow exhaust...that's if you own a CL-S.

Keep your OEM mufflers on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well a cat back exhaust one gives about 5hp if your lucky. It's more for sound. Don't want sound... Don't get an exhaust. Maby remove resignator.

if you want an aftermarket look without the sound your best bet is to buy comptech mufflers with the silencer.

it's a pretty pricey set up though and you'd need to find a used set.

Keep it stock... catback is only worth 2-3 hp...

All the gains are in the headers... the rest of the system is fine.

Would getting a set of the Magnaflow universal mufflers keep the exhaust sound pretty much at the same noise level?

i don't remember how loud stock exhaust is.

but just off the top of my head the magnaflows do make a more noticeable amount of sound. they're pretty conservative too.

i agree with the ricer sound. i currently have the ct icebox and xs headers. it sound more aggressive but i wouldn't mind more. i think any aftermarket muffler will give you a "ricer" tone. i'm going to change my headers to ct and i am putting on the rt cat. i hope this will make it sound even more aggressive without sounding "ricer".

You may wanna search around for exhaust sound clips, because you are wrong.

i have searched for some time now and all of them sound "ricer" to me. obviously, this is my opinion and mine alone. the only one that i have heard that does not sound "ricer" was a sebring exhuast on my friends audi. i have heard sebring and remus is related so i am interested in hearing remus on our cars. i have heard remus on other cars and in my opinion they sound "ricer"...... maybe it needs a silencer?

well if your coming from owning a bunch of v8's with exhaust, then yes I can see where you're coming from, but my exhaust (magnaflow) is far from sounding like a 4cyl civic with exhaust.

CL-S exhaust is already free flowing, so changing it would only increase the sound and a few HP. our exhaust is quiet but loud when you want it to, its perfect for me.

Awsome.

Thanks for the prompt replies guys.

I did not know our exhaust was that good. I just assumed stock exhausts sucks And yes I have a CL-S.

Alright. So I could do this then.
Intake, headers. And how about a more flowing catalytic converter. Ive read a lot on here about them. Is it Random technologoy that makes them? Any one have a site I can find them or get a $.

And as far as intake goes. I've read that the injen one is more quiet? I did a few searches, but always get conflicting opinions. But most have said the injen is more quiet.

And assuming I do XS headers. How much louder would that make the car?

Thanks guys

the headers will not be to much louder but you will def. feel the difference. imo, the headers is a must. it will sound more aggressive tho, but not annoying. as for the intake i have the ct icebox and its very quiet until you go wot. ct is going out of business, so only way is to find it used. and yes random tech. makes the cat. contacnt excelerate on this board. he has a brief discription of them in his group buy.

Random technology cat is good for us cali people because of the strict smog regulations. one of the forum sponsors has them Excelerate has them.

Comptech is the quiest intake. It sounds almost stock and looks stock.

xs headers will not make your car loud but will make the car have a nice exhaust tones that does not appeal to the cops. Hope this helps

Please define the term "ricer".

We've actually been known to offer a very reasonable alternative to other aftermarket mufflers sound wise. We are renouned to offer a refined and rich low growl. Not sure how this fits in with ricer.

If your wanting a quiet exhaust but have it look sexy. Get the magnaflow 14832 muffler. I had them on my car with no mods and it sounded like the OEM mufflers.

I dont understand how people say Magnaflow is quiet. I mean it's not obnoxiously loud, but you can hear my exhaust from a 1/4 mile down at WOT. If it sounds like oem mufflers to you, then you should've just gotten new tips welded on to the oem mufflers. I think the sound is perfect.

I've been thinking about buying just headers myself. I'm 38 and don't really want people looking around the corner thinking some teeny bopper is coming around in his ricer. I wouldn't mind just a bit throater, but I want it to be minimal compared to stock. I've seen really cheap headers on Ebay and I know that Comptech has headers that are quite expensive comparitively (I know they're going out of biz) Any major differences? Any recommendations? 03 CLS 6 speed

The headers being sold on eBay copied Comptech's design, and I believe sell for $110/each. Fuzzy02cls has been running them since last November w/o issue. Get a new set of bolts though. A lot of members here have them installed, just do a search.

or look into the Comptech exhausts. they're pretty quiet, but give a small, but nice tone

Just got my headers installed yesterday, much nicer sound in the mid to high rpm range. I think they are exactly what you are looking for.

I put my headers on last week, they do give it a more meaty sound, but I'd still like a little bit more sound, so have a RT cat on the way... hope that will satisfy my needs without doing mufflers.......

There isn't a big difference when the car is at idle but it is a little louder and throatier especially in the low to mid rpm range

and if you want more power and less sound stay away from an exhaust just go for the headers and maybe even add another resonator
