Quick Help! Oil Filter Explosion!

So, I changed my oil and filter and started the car back up. Next thing I know the floor is covered in oil!

I quickly turn the car off and look at the filter. Turns out the filter is exploding oil. Filter is in tact and the oil is shooting from between the filter and where it would make contact with the car.

Did I not tighten the filter enough?!?

Either you didn't tighten it enough, or you crossed threaded it and making it impossible to be tightened properly.

Also double check that the old rubber gasket from the last filter came off and that you dont have a double gasket

Remember to take a little fresh oil and rub it on the new filter gasket before you install it.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but how long did you drive it with the red oil light on? Or put it another way, how long did the engine run (at idle or at speed) with that light on? If it is anything more than 30-60 seconds, you might want to consider saving up for a rebuild.
