Wow. 50 degrees in the morning? That must be freezing
I usually let it warm up about 30 seconds on a normal 35* morning, sometimes up to a minute. I don't drive over 3k rpms until the car is up to running temps.

I know, unless your car is not fuel injected you dont really have to warm it up in the true sense of the term but I find that my car shifts alot smoother when its warmed up

A min or so should be plenty

As do I but it's a bit colder here.
No need for a long warmup. Modern cars are meant to be driven to warm them up and don't require the long times of cars built pre-'90s. Anything more then a minute is wasting gas and putting unnecessary wear and tear on your engine.

turn on and stab the gas???? poor engine... try waking up and doing push ups right away... engine needs to lubricate well... circulate that cold oil that is just waking up to do its job... there is considerably much more friction inside engine components the moment you start up... even on a hot summer day

agreeing with everyone else, anything over 30sec is unnecessary. modern cars warm up better under load, which idling is not.
that said, if your car has frost on it, so you need to scrape the windows, start it up, scrape the windows and go. won't harm it, and you'll be a bit closer to having a warm interior.

All depends on how much time i have in the morning. Some times its start and within 20 seconds in gear and moving, other times its 15-20 mins.

Just start and go. I agree for fuel injected cars you don't have to warm it up unless its for your own comfort to get nice and toasty before you drive off haha. It'll heat up quicker when you drive rather than sit there and let it eat some gas

I still stick by what I said -20c or more let it warm up for 4-5 minutes not because its bad for it just because it runs alot smoother that and the the leather isnt bitterly cold !!!

if it's cold (0 or lower) I usually wait till it gets warm (to operating temp) and then drive the car. if it's warmer I'll start the car and let it sit anywhere from a 1 min to 3 mins... depending on the day, my schedule and how much other crap I need to get b4 i leave.
I live beside the highway tho so I will 95% of the time let it get to temp before blasting on the freeway if I need to take the highway first

when its -20celcius you kinda have to let it warm up untill the front defrost works Ive let it warm up for 1 minute then drove off I had to have my head tilted way to the side looking through the small defrosted part in the middle of the windshield so thats why I let it warm up for awhile !!
I think the title of this thread should me when its 32f how long should I warm my car up for IMO
and stop talking about smoking your drivin me crazy LOL

start car wait 1 minute and drive away gently. car warms up faster if you actually put the engine under a load. Here it got -26 for winter time for a week straight and i started the car, cleared the windows and drive away. had heat less than 1 mile later.

during the winter i usually wait 30 seconds to a minute and crawl trough two levels of underground parking ... by the time i'm on the door she's ready to go ... can't say the same about the bum warmers though

the trick for me right after the car starts, shift into reverse if you need to drive the car when its cold. It only works if you shift the tranny to reverse immeditely after you start the car and it shifts into reverse pretty smoothly.
Im thinking the revs on the engine is high when its cold so its like slightly stepping on the gas then shifting to reverse.

Concave All Da Way!
I usually let it warm up til the temp needle points to the first marker on the gauge, then ill let her rip. But if I dont and just drive rite after start, when I come to a stop or red light, the car idles badly like its gonna die. But I already clean out the IACV wtf could possibly be wrong!?

well... in a couple weeks I'm going to take the liberty of changing the ATF filter and trans fluid to see if I can get any results.
Not that my trans isn't good the way it is... but there is always room for improvement, especially with this whole backing up when the car is cold thing.
